A story for every victim

Violeta Monleon Berg, 69

Violeta Alonte Monleon-Berg, a 69-year-old female Asian Pacific Islander, was fatally stabbed in the apartment she shared with her husband in the Westlake district of Los Angeles.

Los Angeles Police Department officers were called to the 300 block of South Commonwealth Avenue about 7 a.m. Sunday to investigate a reported stabbing and saw Ronald Leroy Berg, 72, leaving the location.

Inside, they found Monleon-Berg lying on the floor; she had been beaten and stabbed several times. Paramedics pronounced her dead at the scene.

Police said the couple had been married for 20 years and Monleon-Berg had told her husband that she was going to leave him. The Los Angeles County district attorney's office has charged her husband with murder.
