Yizhu Mu, a 36-year-old Asian woman, was found dead Friday, Sept. 29, in the 16900 block of Pioneer Boulevard in Artesia, according to Los Angeles County sheriff’s investigators.
Mu had a San Gabriel address, according to Lt. Derrick Alfred, but she had been staying at the Excelsior Hotel, also known as the Artesia Inn and Suites, for at least a week.
A hotel maid discovered Mu’s body about 10:50 a.m. on the bed in the room, officials said. She was pronounced dead at the scene at 11 a.m., Alfred said.
Early reports indicated that Mu had been strangled, but investigators put a security hold on her autopsy results so an exact cause of death won’t be available until the investigation is finished, Alfred said.

Damien Michael Blakely, a 44-year-old Asian and black man, was shot and killed Thursday, Sept. 7 in the 5300 block of Monterey Road in Montecito Heights, according to authorities and coroner’s records.
About 8:45 p.m., Blakely, who was visiting family in the area, was washing a pickup truck parked in front of a home. A black sedan drove up and stopped, said Los Angeles Police Det. Jose Ramirez.
Blakely and a person inside the sedan “exchanged words,” then someone in the sedan shot Blakely, Ramirez said.
Blakely was pronounced dead at the scene at 8:58 p.m., according to coroner’s records.
Police believe there was more than one person in the sedan, which fled south on Monterey Road.

Hye Soon Oh, a 67-year-old Asian woman, was fatally shot Tuesday, Aug. 8, in the 2900 block of Montrose Avenue in Glendale, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
Glendale police responded about 8:30 p.m. after a report of gunfire in the area, according to Sgt. Robert William, a department spokesman. Officers found Oh on the ground near a vehicle in an open carport area of an apartment complex.
She had a single gunshot wound, according to William. Oh was transported to the hospital where she died at 9:40 p.m., according to coroner’s records.
Investigators believe it was not a random shooting and that Oh was possibly targeted for a robbery as she was returning home from her business, William said.

Jorge Luis Chan, a 52-year-old Asian man, was fatally shot Friday, Aug. 4, near Main Street and Strand Street in Santa Monica, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
About 6:30 p.m., Santa Monica police received multiple calls about a shooting, according to a news release. Upon arriving, officers found Chan suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Chan was transported to a hospital, where he died at 7:16 p.m., according to coroner’s records.
As officers searched the area near 3rd Street and Hollister Avenue, they found Christopher Charles Davis, 46, who matched the description of the shooter. Davis had a handgun and pointed the weapon at police, authorities said.

About 5 a.m., Los Angeles police officers were called to an apartment and found Mison Yoo, a 26-year-old Asian woman, walking around inside, said LAPD Lt. John Radtke.
Officers found Yoo covered in blood and Sung in a back room suffering from stab wounds, police said.
Sung was pronounced dead at the scene at 5:20 a.m., according to coroner’s records.
Police said that Yoo was intoxicated at the time of the killing, but she gave a statement to police.

Siosifa Maama, a 21-year-old Tongan man, was shot and killed Wednesday, July 19, in the 11400 block of South Broadway in the Broadway-Manchester area of South Los Angeles, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
Shortly before 10 p.m., between four and six people drove to a marijuana dispensary and tried to rob the store, Los Angeles Police Det. Nate Kouri said.
The would-be robbers struggled with Maama, a security guard, who was shot.
Two other people inside the business also were shot, Kouri said. A third person was wounded and ran away.

Katrina Lynn Barragan, a 37-year-old Asian woman, died on Sunday, July 2, after she was stabbed in the 4200 block of Jonathon Street in Lancaster, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
Barragan and her husband, Rafael Barragan, a 47-year-old Latino, got into an argument at their home the evening of July 1, said Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Lt. Rodney Moore.
Katrina Barragan called 911 about 11 p.m. and her husband hung up the phone, Moore said. The call triggered deputies to go to the home, Moore said. When they arrived, they found Rafael Barragan outside the house and his wife inside, with stab wounds, Moore said.
Katrina Barragan was taken to a nearby hospital where she was pronounced dead at 12:40 a.m. July 2, according to coroner’s records. The cause of death was listed as multiple stab wounds.
Yoshimi Shanmei Cheng, a 73-year-old Asian woman, was shot and killed on Saturday, June 24, in the 1300 block of South Stevens Avenue in San Gabriel, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
Cheng was in the apartment she shared with her son, Raymond Cheng, 49, and his wife about 10 p.m. when she was shot by her son, who then shot himself, said Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Lt. Joe Mendoza.
“We are treating this as a murder-suicide,” Mendoza said.

Chen, a mother of two, was the manager of the Ambassador Inn hotel at 2720 Valley Blvd., where she worked from 3:30 to 11:30 p.m., said her husband, Armando Escandor.

Darrell Don Woo, a 55-year-old Asian man, was shot and killed Thursday, April 20, in the 1500 block of West Carson Street in Torrance, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
Woo was waiting at a bus stop when he was shot at 6:40 p.m. and collapsed on the sidewalk, according to a news release from the Los Angeles Police Department. Another person, a Latino, was wounded.

Jonah Min Hwang, an 8-year-old boy, was shot and killed Monday, Feb. 20, in the 1100 block of West 111th Street in Pomona, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
About 6:30 p.m., Jonah was in the living room of a home with other children and adults. The residents of the home had invited a family over to dinner, Pomona Police Lt. Eddie Vazquez said.

About 6:15 p.m. Feb. 18, Covina police were called to the home of Lynda Fick and Lucas Doi Fick, a 36-year-old parolee, said Sgt. Antonia Zavala of the Covina Police Department.

Alhambra police officers were called about 12:42 p.m. regarding a woman lying on the ground outside her apartment, said Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Sgt. Troy Ewing. The woman was later identified as Cheung, who lived in the apartment with her adult daughter.
