Mervin Benjamin, a 25-year-old black man, was shot and killed Monday, Jan. 20, in the 7900 block of Melrose Avenue in Beverly Grove, according to Los Angeles County Medical Examiner-Coroner's records.
Shortly before 2:15 a.m., officers from the Los Angeles Police Department responded to a call of shots fired in the area and found a blood trail leading to an alley, said LAPD Det. Sean Kinchla.
Police believe that moments before the shooting, two men, one of whom was Benjamin, tried to rob a group of people.
One of the people they tried to rob was a plainclothes security guard who pulled out a gun and shot Benjamin, Kinchla said.
Benjamin ran up to a random car and told them he had been shot. The occupants took him to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 3:11 a.m., according to coroner's records.

Delaney Griffin, a 54-year-old black man, was fatally stabbed Saturday, Sept. 9, in the 700 block of North Fairfax Avenue in the Fairfax neighborhood, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
About 9:30 p.m., Griffin was walking north on North Fairfax Avenue looking for medical attention and knocked on the door of an assisted living home, said LAPD Lt. John Radtke. The person who answered found Griffin bleeding profusely from a slit to the throat, and called paramedics who arrived and pronounced Griffin dead at the scene at 9:40 p.m., according to police and coroner’s records.
Police tracked the blood trail south, to an alley west of North Fairfax Avenue, where they found the crime scene, Radtke said.

Erik Mars Poltorak, a 42-year-old white man, was found dead Thursday, Nov. 1, in the 300 block of North Laurel Avenue in Beverly Grove, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.
Poltorak's coworker went to his home that morning and found him injured on the porch.
Authorities were called about 11:20 a.m., and Polotrak was pronounced dead at the scene. He had suffered several gunshot wounds to his body.
During the investigation, detectives learned that neighbors had heard what sounded like gunshots about 2 a.m., but police were not called at the time.
No other details were available about the killing.

Bobby Khamvongsa, a 27-year-old Asian man, was stabbed to death Saturday, May 19, in the 300 block of North Orlando Avenue in Beverly Grove, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.
Police responded to a call regarding a traffic accident about 1:30 a.m. and found Khamvongsa lying in the street with several stab wounds, according to an LAPD release.
Paramedics were called and the victim was pronounced dead at the scene. Coroner's records show he suffered stab wounds to the chest and back.
During the investigation, detectives learned Khamvongsa got into an argument with a man, which apparently led to the stabbing.
The alleged assailant has been identified as Richard Herrera, 29. He was arrested and later booked on suspicion of murder, police said.

Eduardo Solis, a 4-month-old Latino baby, died Thursday, April 7, in the 8700 block of Beverly Boulevard in Beverly Grove, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

Ed Winter, spokesman for the coroner's office, said Eduardo was in the care of his father when he was discovered limp and unresponsive.
The baby was taken to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center where he displayed seizure-like activity and a subdural hematoma was diagnosed, Winter said.
A CAT scan revealed the infant suffered cerebral edema, and he was declared brain dead.

Thomas Dufour, a 50-year-old white man, was found stabbed to death Saturday, Sept. 3, in the 400 block of Le Doux Road in Beverly Grove, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.
Los Angeles Police Department officers were dispatched to Dufour's home near Cedars-Sinai Medical Center late Saturday after friends reported him missing, officials said.
When they arrived, they found Dufour dead, LAPD spokesman Cleon Joseph said.
Coroner's records show the victim suffered multiple sharp force injuries.
Authorities did not provide any other information about the case.

Roderick Anthony Burton II, a 21-year-old black man, was shot in the head and killed on Monday, May 18, in the 8500 block of Beverly Boulevard in Beverly Grove, according to the Los Angeles County coroner's office.
Burton, an Atlanta-based rapper best-known by his stage name Dolla, was shot about 3:10 p.m. while standing in the valet waiting area of the Beverly Center mall.
Witnesses told authorities that the gunman fled in a Mercedes SUV.
Hours later Los Angeles police arrested Aubrey Louis Berry, 23, of Atlanta at Los Angeles International Airport. Police said he had what they believe was the gun that killed Burton tucked in his waistband when he was detained.
Berry has been charged with Burton's murder. He pleaded not guilty at an arraignment on May 22.

Eron Mull, an 18-year-old black man, was shot to death Saturday, Jan. 12, in West Los Angeles outside of the nightclub Level Ten near La Cienega Boulevard and Rosewood Avenue.
A fight in the nightclub spilled into the parking lot of nearby Norm's restaurant, and a radio call went out to officers from the Los Angeles Police Department's Hollywood Division, said Officer Norma Eisenman, an LAPD spokeswoman.
