Elawnza Vontre Peebles, a 14-year-old black teenager, was shot and killed Saturday, Nov. 9, near the intersection of 46th Street and Kansas Avenue in Vermont Square, according to L.A. County coroner’s records.
About 9:40 p.m., Peebles was walking south on Kansas Avenue when he was shot multiple times, said LAPD Det. Supervisor Sal LaBarbera. Detectives are unsure whether the gunman was on foot or in a vehicle.
After Peebles was shot, he ran to a nearby driveway and collapsed. He was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 10:08 p.m., said Ed Winters, a coroner’s spokesman.
Peebles had recently moved to the area, and lived less than a block away from where he was killed.
