Ernesto Aguilar, an 18-year-old Latino, was fatally shot Sunday, Nov. 28, in the 7700 block of Otis Avenue in Cudahy, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

Deputies responded to a call reporting a "gunshot victim down" about 3:20 p.m. according to a Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department news release.

When authorities arrived, they found Aguilar and another man, Alex Lombardi, an 18-year-old Latino, suffering from gunshot wounds.

Both men were taken to the hospital where they were pronounced dead, officials said.

Witnesses to the shooting described the assailant as a male, possibly Latino, wearing a hooded sweatshirt. He was last seen fleeing on foot west on Olive Street. Bystanders also saw a gray or silver colored sedan heading west on Olive Street.

The shooting is believed to be gang-related.

As i was listening to some 2pac it instantly reminded of you. Im not going to lie, i cried, its something you can never get use too. Especially after not seeing each other as often as we should have. Man, all of our childhood memories. When all we had to do was wake up, go to school and come back and play in the backyard and watch the simpsons. Those were the days. We didnt worry about a thing. I remember when you would squeeze my face, it would hurt so much and i would get sooooo mad. But now, i wish i never got mad at you. I wish you could still squeeze my cheeks. I would always be so happy to see you and you were always so happy to see me, you never failed to make me laugh. The last time i saw you, i was on my way to school, and you screamed my name out from a van you were driving in and when i looked up and saw it was you, i felt so calm and happy and your face was just so vibrant and you looked so happy. I miss you so much primo. I wish you could have met our kids. They would have loved you. Never forget we love you. Always.

ernie is my cousin, and i dont use past tense because death wont tear us apart. i remember my mom telling me through the phone and i was hoping she was referring to some other ernie, and when she said it was cousin, i felt like my world collapsed, like my heart shattered into millions of pieces, i cried and cried and i couldnt take it. i couldnt believe that some heartless idiot would do this to my cousin. ernie would never do such a thing to someone and thats what hurts the most. it hurts that he had a painful death. i want him back, but its not gonna happen. all we can do is wait till the day that god asks for us to come home too so we can see him again. i love you ernie and your in my heart, mind, laughter, and soul as long as im breathing. r.i.p my frijolito and keep looking over our family because we will always be thinking about your humor, nicknames, and smile. love you!! p.s. you looked so peaceful at the funeral, and this lets me know that your in a better place. you dont deserve to live in this cold world, you deserve a place where nothing but happiness and love exists. i miss you and i love you...

It is an unfortunate and sad event for the families involved. The article does state that the shooting was believed to be gang related. That's the problem here, individual choices made by young men and women who decide to participate in the gang lifestyle. To Estrella Fugaz, is not so much that the police or justice system has gone weak but the wealthy people obviously have better means to move out of destitute areas full of crime and unfortunately for us Latinos, we don't have the resources or MONEY to move out and are forced to live here. Keep in mind one thing, whether you want to realize it or not, the police will help anyone. Whether you're a gang member or some innocent citizen, they're here to help. They can't prevent everything from happening. Police is not blame. Although as harsh as it may sound, these two guys were in someway or another involved in gang activity and gangs do nothing positive for our communities. They might not have been as innocent as you thought they were. Prayers out to the families who are the real victims.

It had been so many years that i hadn't seen ernie. The day before his death, on Saturday, i was driving and i saw him and his brother as i was drving by but didn't stop. Not knowing that that was going to be the last day that i would ever see him, i regret not stopping to say hello, for now it is too late. The following day, sunday night, i was driving to the store and came across the yello tape around and saw that i couldn't get through the street. I thought to myself" great another shooting must have hapened and someone probably died". Later did i find out that i was right, and that this person was Ernie. He did not deserve to die. When i was younger i remember him coming to my house to play and he was always putting a smile and cracking up jokes to put a smile one everyones face. It saddens me to know that ernie and this other young man Alex, where victims of this devestating crime. The police system has gone so weak here in the latino community, for in other areas,especially white areas, the police secure and patrol their cities very well looking for these individuals that are just trying to cause the death of so many innocent people. Though we are latinos, we are human too and deserve the right to live in a well-safe community and feel protected by the police. The police has to do their job here in Cudahy, Bell, south gate, H.p. R.I.P Ernie and Alex and justice needs to be done!!!

This is to the cowardly low-life thug that took these two kids lives, and probably boasting and bragging about what you did.

One day you will meet this same fate, and I hope that your family, and friends doesn't get on this blog, and start talking about how sweet, caring, and a family man you were trying to have everyone feeling so sorry for you, when you could cold-heartedly take two innocent kids lives like you did, YOU COWARD!!; I guess now your sticking your chest out like your the man now.

How would you feel if your family was did this same way, If you were a real man, then why didn't you confront them, and fight with your fist if you were truly a bad-ass??, No, because you COWARDS don't do things like that, and you chose to be a big COWARD!!. I can't wait until justice catch up with you, convict you, and they give you the death penalty, then you'll want the justice system to have mercy on you like your a victim, and I'm sure your family would be very ashame of you, and what you did, and hope you take your punishment like a real man, and not like the coward your use to being, YOU COWARD!!
