A story for every victim

Karina Duch, 40

Karina Duch, a 40-year-old Cambodian woman, was fatally stabbed Wednesday, April 13, in the 1200 block of Stanley Avenue in Long Beach, according to authorities and Los Angeles County coroner’s records.

Long Beach police officers were called about 12:50 p.m. to a home regarding “unknown trouble,” according to a news release from the department. When officers arrived, they found a man with a knife who was suffering from a self-inflicted stab wound, police said.

The man refused officer’s commands to drop the knife, and police used “less lethal options” to take him into custody.

Officers entered the home and found Duch with a stab wound to the chest, police said.

Ngounsay Keo, a 59-year-old Asian man, has been charged with one count of murder and two counts of making criminal threats, according to a spokeswoman with the Los Angeles County district attorney’s office. He was hospitalized after the incident, but is now at the Twin Towers correctional facility, according to online jail records.

Investigators learned that Keo and Duch dated for about 23 years and have two children, ages 14 and 7, together.

Keo is scheduled to be arraigned May 5 in Department S01 at the Long Beach Courthouse. Anyone with information is asked to call homicide detectives at (562) 570-7244. Those who wish to remain anonymous can call Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-8477.
