A story for every victim

Kevin Orellana, 18

Kevin Orellana, an 18-year-old white male, was stabbed to death Wednesday, April 24, in the 8100 block Vanalden Avenue in Reseda, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

Orellana, an adult school student at West Valley Occupational Center in Woodland Hills, died from a stab wound he received in a fight just before 4 p.m. at Cleveland High School.

Orellana was playing handball when two males –- police say they are suspected gang members –- approached. Orellana got into an argument with one of the two, and it turned into a fight, when Orellana was punched.

As the two fought, the second suspect pulled out a pocket knife and stabbed Orellana, police said.

Orellana was not a gang member, police said.

Witnesses reported seeing Orellana’s two attackers escape in a waiting minivan driven by a young woman. Using social media and other methods, police tracked down the alleged attackers and getaway driver.

According to police, the three suspects -- Michael Steven Carpio, 19, of Panorama City, Michelle Pineda, 19, of Los Angeles, and a 16-year-old -- were arrested Thursday about 12:15 a.m. on suspicion of murder.
