James Leroy Breedlove, 40

James Leroy Breedlove, a 40-year-old black man, was killed Saturday, Sept. 14, in the 5000 block of Rodeo Road in Baldwin Hills/Crenshaw, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.

Breedlove was standing in the parking lot of the Rancho Cienega Sports Complex when a person driving a light-colored Ford Expedition ran him over, LAPD Det. Supervisor Chris Barling said.

The person then got out of his car and began to strike Breedlove with a pipe, Barling said.

Breedlove was pronounced dead at a hospital at 4:43 p.m., according to coroner’s records. 

He died of multiple traumatic injuries, an autopsy showed.

Alex Hodge, 50, was arrested Sept. 16 in connection with Breedlove’s death, according to Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department online records.
