Victor Valencia, a 31-year-old Latino, was shot and killed by Los Angeles police on Saturday, Jan. 11, near South Venice Boulevard and Tuller Avenue in Palms, on the border with Culver City, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
Shortly before 1 p.m., a sergeant with the Los Angeles Police Department responded to a call of a man with a gun near South Sepulveda and Venice Boulevard, according to a video released by the LAPD detailing the incident.
The sergeant saw a man matching the description he was given, stopped his vehicle, got out and saw the man, later identified as Valencia, pointing a gun at him, according to a prepared LAPD statement.
A person in the area also said that Valencia was pointing a gun at the officer.

Michael Gregory Harrison, a 30-year-old white male, died Saturday, Aug. 18, after being shot in Culver City, according to Los Angeles County Medical Examiner-Coroner's records.
Trinidad Gonzalez Sanchez, a 51-year-old Latino, died Thursday, Jan. 2, at a hospital in Culver City, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.
Sanchez was involved in a physical fight with family members the night before his death in the 11600 block of Washington Boulevard, according to a statement from Culver City police.
"As a result of the altercation, Mr. Sanchez became ill and was taken to the hospital by relatives, where he succumbed to his injuries," the statement said.
Police were called to the hospital about 6:50 a.m. Thursday to investigate the suspicious death.
The investigation is ongoing.

Richard Winkleman, a 48-year-old white man, was killed by a shotgun blast near 2567 Walnut Ave. in Venice and died at 11:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 17.
Detectives believe he may have been killed in an attempted robbery. He had parked his 2002 Harley Davidson motorcycle in the alley and was walking away from it when someone confronted him. There was an argument, then a blast. Winkleman died at the scene; the suspect fled.
Winkleman was divorced with grown children. He was a longtime Venice resident who had spent time in prison.
