A story for every victim

Felipe Hernandez, 33

Felipe Hernandez, a 33-year-old Latino, died Thursday, July 17, from injuries suffered after an April 2011 shooting in the 9800 block of Beach Street in Watts, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.

On April 21, 2011, about 5 p.m., Hernandez along with Jesus Sanchez, 22, met with two men in their 20s for a drug deal, said LAPD Det. Sal LaBarbera. Both parties pulled out guns and shot at each other, LaBarbera said.

Sanchez was taken to a hospital and died that day.

The other two men, who were in their mid-20s at the time, were also wounded. Charges were not filed against the men because of self-defense issues, LaBarbera said.

Hernandez, who has remained hospitalized, was pronounced dead at a hospital on July 17 at 7:31 p.m., according to coroner’s records.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Criminal Gang Homicide Division at (213) 485-4341. Those who wish to remain anonymous can call Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-8477.
