William Escamilla, a 16-year-old Latino, died Monday, Sept. 11, after he was stabbed in the 11900 block of Long Beach Boulevard in Lynwood, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
William was in a parking lot behind the Free Dry Coin Laundry at 11904 Long Beach Boulevard when he was attacked about 4 p.m., according to coroner’s records.
A few minutes earlier, William had been washing clothes inside the laundromat with his mother, said Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Sgt. Marcelo Quintero. He went outside to get a bottle of water from their car and was confronted by a man on a bicycle.
“We think the motive was robbery,” Quintero said. “There’s no indication these people knew each other. This man confronted him and ended up cutting him on the left side of his neck.”

Dax Jordan Quintana Oliveira, a 2-month-old Latino boy, died Thursday, Aug. 31, after suffering head and neck trauma in the 3500 block of Brenton Avenue in Lynnwood, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies were called to the Oliveira home about 3 p.m. Aug. 29 regarding an unresponsive baby, Lt. Derrick Alfred said.
Paramedics took the baby to the hospital, where he was treated for trauma to his head and neck, Alfred said.
Dax was pronounced dead at the hospital two days later at 5:36 a.m., according to coroner’s records.
Investigators think Dax had been shaken violently by his father. Both the boy’s parents were home and in the same room at the time, Alfred said.

Jose Anthony Elortegui, a 29-year-old Latino, was shot and killed Tuesday, March 7, in the 5100 block of Beechwood Avenue in Lynwood, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
Elortegui lived with his grandmother and sister, said Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Sgt. Troy Ewing, and usually kept to himself because he didn’t want any involvement with the gangs in his neighborhood.
Investigators believe Elortegui was going to a corner store near his home that evening around 7:45 p.m. when a car — possibly white SUV — pulled up beside him on Beechwood Avenue and the passenger in the front seat began shooting, Ewing said.
The car drove away westbound on Beechwood. Elortegui kept walking west for a short distance until he collapsed on the sidewalk near Beechwood and Virginia avenues, Ewing said. A passerby found him bleeding and called 911.

Daniel Nunez, a 32-year-old Latino, was shot and killed on Monday, March 6, in the 11800 block of Second Avenue in Lynwood, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
A resident told investigators that he heard two men arguing about 7:30 p.m. and then heard gunfire, said Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Sgt. Troy Ewing.
When the resident looked, he saw a Latino in his 20s running from the location.
Nunez was taken to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead at 10:41 p.m.
Ewing said Nunez was a transient from Lynwood who didn't have his own home. "He was kind of couch surfing, and this was the place he was hanging out at the time," he said. Investigators believe Nunez was just standing outside the place where he was staying when he was shot.

Santiago Morales, a 52-year-old Latino, was pronounced dead Tuesday, Feb. 28, after he was shot in the 11300 block of Long Beach Boulevard in Lynwood, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
Morales was found seated behind the wheel of his car, which was parked in the alley behind the commercial street, said Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Lt. Steve Jauch.
A passerby saw him unresponsive in the car around 8:30 a.m. and called 911, Jauch said.
Morales was pronounced dead at the scene at 8:42 a.m. He had been shot in the chest, according to coroner’s records. It appeared someone shot him from outside the car, Jauch said. The driver's side window was shattered, and the bullet went through Morales' arm and into his torso, he said.

Jovany Solis Guerra, a 21-year-old Latino, died Thursday, Jan. 5, after he was shot in the 5100 block of Abbott Road in South Gate, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
South Gate police were called about 12:40 p.m. Tuesday about a gunshot victim, said Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department Sgt. Marcelo Quintero.

Leopoldo Delatorre, a 58-year-old Latino, was fatally stabbed Thursday, Nov. 10, in the 10700 block of McNerney Avenue in Lynwood, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.
Delatorre, who lived in Whittier, was doing construction work on a home with his 24-year-old son around 10 a.m. when the two got into an argument, L.A. County Sheriff's Lt. John Corina said.
The dispute escalated, and the son stabbed Delatorre, Corina said. Delatorre was pronounced dead at the scene at 10:14 a.m., according to coroner’s records.
Nur Delatorre, who is Latino, was arrested on suspicion of murder that day, according to online jail records.
