Jerriell Maxwell Wilborn, 49

Jerriell Wilborn, a 49-year-old black man, was shot and killed Wednesday, Aug. 4, near Slauson Avenue and Main Street in South Park, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

Jerriel and his wife, Sulema Wilborn, a 51-year-old Latina, were driving on Slauson Avenue, about a quarter of a mile from the 110 Freeway, when they were both shot, said Det. Thomas Brown of the Los Angeles Police Department's Newton division.

Sulema Wilborn, who was in the driver's seat, accelerated and his vehicle crashed into a pole on the freeway offramp, Brown said.

Authorities were called and the two pronounced dead at the scene at 3:43 a.m., according to coroner's records.

Brown said there were no witnesses to the shooting. The incident may be gang-related.
