John Henry Davis, 49

John Henry Davis, a 49-year-old black man, was fatally shot Friday, Aug. 23, in the 900 block of West 134th Place in Compton, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.

Around 8 p.m., deputies were in the area investigating a report of shots fired when they heard gunfire, said Lt. Eddie Hernandez with the L.A. County Sheriff’s Department homicide bureau.

While seeking the source of the shots, deputies found Davis suffering from multiple gunshot wounds in the driveway of a house, Hernandez said.

Deputies do not believe the sets of gunshots are related, Hernandez said.

Davis died at 8:23 p.m. at the scene, said coroner’s spokesman Ed Winter.
