DeAndre Dercell Hughes, a 30-year-old black man, was shot and killed Sunday, July 17, in the 900 block of East 120th Street in Green Meadows, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
Shortly before 7:30 p.m., Hughes was in standing in a frontyard with another person when two others approached from the street and began shooting, said Los Angeles Police Det. Nate Kouri.
People in the area came outside to help Hughes, who was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead at 7:53 p.m., authorities said.
Detectives believe the assailants got into a white sedan. Police believe that Hughes was not the intended target in the shooting.
For the past eight years, Hughes worked at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center as an environmental services technician, cleaning patient rooms and taking out the trash.

Raymond Lee Arnold, a 31-year-old black man, was shot and killed Saturday, July 16, in the 12800 block of Crenshaw Boulevard in Hawthorne, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
Arnold was inside a barber shop called Updeh Cutz about 4 p.m. when he got into a confrontation with at least two other men in the shop in a strip mall at Crenshaw Boulevard and West El Segundo Boulevard, said Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Lt. John Corina.
During the argument, at least one of the men pulled out a gun and fired at Arnold, Corina said.
More shots were fired as the two men went into the parking lot, and at some point a customer, a 29-year-old black man, was also struck by gunfire, Corina said.

Angel Aurelio Soto, a 17-year-old Latino, was shot and killed Saturday, July 16, in the 18000 block of Alburtis Avenue in Artesia, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.
Angel's family once lived in Lynwood but moved to Moreno Valley "to get away from the violence in L.A.," said Los Angeles County Sheriff's Det. Eddie Aguirre.
Angel had returned to L.A. for the weekend to visit friends and his baby daughter, Aguirre said.
Saturday night, Angel attended a party on Alburtis Avenue with about 30 other people, Aguirre said.

Sebastian Landa, a 21-day-old Latino, died Saturday, July 16, after he was beaten in the 7000 block of Makee Avenue in the Florence-Firestone neighborhood of South Los Angeles, according to authorities.
Landa, who was born on June 25, was taken to a hospital with multiple blunt force injuries about 4:30 p.m. Thursday, July 14, said Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Lt. John Corina.
His mother, Calixta Landa, 21, told doctors that her baby had fallen, but doctors told investigators that the injuries looked more like physical abuse, Corina said.
Landa later told investigators that she hit her baby earlier that day and then took him to the hospital, Corina said.
“She admitted to being frustrated,” he said. “The baby was crying. She got frustrated and then she got physical with the baby, and the baby ended up with blunt force trauma.”

Jesse Duron Smith, a 40-year-old black man, was shot and killed Tuesday, July 12, in the 12900 block of South Hoover Street in Harbor Gateway, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
About 1:10 a.m., police received a call of a shooting, said Los Angeles Police Det. Nate Kouri. When officers arrived, they found Smith in the street and a group of people trying to help him.
Smith was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 1:49 a.m., according to police and coroner’s records.
Investigators believe that a group of about five or six people were standing in the area when a person walked along West 130th Street, stood on the corner and began firing at the group, Kouri said.

Justin Lee Fernandez, a 29-year-old Latino, died Sunday, July 10, in the 900 block of San Bernardino Avenue in Pomona, according to the Los Angeles County district attorney’s office.
About 5:30 p.m., Pomona police received a call about a stabbing victim in an alley, according to Lt. Hector Rodriguez. When officers arrived, they found two men, including Fernandez, who had been stabbed. Both were taken to a hospital, Rodriguez said.
Fernandez was pronounced dead at 5:39 p.m., according to coroner’s records. The other person who was stabbed, an 18-year-old, survived, Rodriguez said.
Detectives are investigating the case and are awaiting analysis of evidence from the scene, Rodriguez said.

Honatan Gonzalez, a 22-year-old Latino, was shot and killed Sunday, July 10, in the 2800 block of Beverly Boulevard in Westlake, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
Shortly before 2 a.m., Gonzalez was shot on the sidewalk outside a banquet hall, said LAPD Det. Ray Martinez. A party at the banquet hall had just ended, but it’s unknown if Gonzalez or the assailant were guests.
Police said that Gonzalez was involved in an argument and was shot. Gonzalez was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead at 2:28 a.m., according to coroner’s records.
Police believe that the gunman fled on foot.

Gilbert Esparza, a 35-year-old Latino, was shot and killed Saturday, July 9, on the bike trail along the Los Angeles River near River Drive and Southhall Lane in Bell, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
Bell police officers received a report of shots fired about 1:12 a.m., said Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Lt. Mike Rosson.
Officers found Esparza unresponsive on the bike path near his bicycle, Rosson said. “We’re not sure if he was shot while riding his bike," Rosson said, or stopped and was confronted. “There were no witnesses or video on the bike path.”
The trail, which runs through a residential area, is unlit, Rosson said.

Victor Alfredo Garcia, a 23-year-old Latino, died Saturday, July 9, after he was shot at the intersection of Cogswell Road and Klingerman Street in El Monte, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
Garcia and his 21-year-old brother were driving home from work about 7 p.m. when Garcia got into an argument with at least two Latinos in a black Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Lt. Mike Rosson said.
The brother said the SUV cut them off, Rosson said, and Garcia, who was sitting in the front passenger seat, shouted at the driver. The men in the SUV shouted back, Rosson said, and the incident escalated.

Ladaro Morrell Figures Jr., a 24-year-old black man, was shot and killed Saturday, July 9, in the 2700 block of West Lantana Street in Compton, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
Figures and a friend were sitting in the front seats of his parked, four-door sedan when two men with guns walked up on either side of the vehicle around 1:14 p.m., said Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Lt. Eddie Hernandez.
The car was parked on the street in front of a house belonging to the friend’s relative, with Figures behind the wheel and his friend in the passenger seat, Hernandez said.

Franklin Murrell Rogers, a 48-year-old white man, was found dead Friday, July 8, in the 1100 block of Waterloo Street in Echo Park, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
Shortly before noon, Rogers was strangled at a sober living home, police said. Rogers was pronounced dead at 11:47 a.m. at the scene, according to coroner’s records.
Nicholas James Bowling, a 28-year-old white man, was arrested on suspicion of murder in the slaying. Bowling and Rogers were romantically involved, police said.
Bowling pleaded not guilty to one count of murder July 12, according to court records.

Jeremiah Eli Bonilla, a 22-year-old Latino, was shot and killed Wednesday, July 6, in the alley behind the 4000 block of Randolph Street in Bell, near Riverside Avenue, according to authorities.
Witnesses reported that Bonilla was sitting in his car in the alley about 3:15 a.m. when a person on a bicycle approached him. Bonilla's car suddenly accelerated, driving through the door of a detached garage, said Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Sgt. Bill Cotter.
Bell Police officers were called because of the noise from the crash, Cotter said. When they arrived, they found Bonilla sitting in the front seat with a gunshot wound to his chest.

Vinson Lee Ramos, a 37-year-old Latino, was shot and killed by police officers on Thursday, July 7, in the 7100 block of South Atlantic Avenue in Bell, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
Ramos allegedly asked Bell Police officers to shoot him and then charged toward them with a knife after a domestic dispute inside a nearby restaurant and store, said Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Sgt. Bill Cotter, whose homicide team is investigating the shooting.
