Miguel Cano, a 34-year-old Latino, was shot and killed by Los Angeles police on Monday, Nov. 9, in the 17400 block of Stagg Street in Lake Balboa, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
About 1 p.m., officers responded to a neighborhood regarding a report of a man acting bizarrely and standing in traffic, said LAPD Lt. John Jenal. As a police helicopter flew over the area, the officers observed the man and his strange behavior, and they deployed a Taser to de-escalate the situation, Jenal said.
The Taser wasn’t effective, so officers shot beanbag rounds at the man, Jenal said. As the situation escalated, shots were fired and the man was killed, Jenal said.
It was unclear how many shots were fired or whether police were engaged in a struggle before the shooting.
The officers were not seriously injured, Jenal said.
