Lexington Elliot Brandon, an 8-month-old black baby, died Tuesday, Nov. 1, in the 3200 block of Flower Street in Lynwood, according to Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department investigators.
Lexington's maternal grandmother called 911 about 4:53 p.m. after she walked into the kitchen where her daughter was giving the baby a bath, Lt. Mike Rosson said.
“The mother was holding the baby in her arms, and the baby appeared to be in great distress,” Rosson said. “He was looking dead.”
Paramedics took the unresponsive baby to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead at 5:45 p.m., according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
The coroner’s office has not listed a formal cause of death, pending toxicology results and other tests, Rosson said. However, he said, there is evidence the baby drowned in a small plastic bathtub in the kitchen.

Ruby Vasquez, a 3-year-old Latina, was fatally stabbed Monday, Oct. 31, in the 800 block of McGarry Street in downtown L.A., according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
About 5 p.m., the child, who was at a garment factory where her parents work, went to give her father a cookie, according to Los Angeles County prosecutors.
Ruby was seen running with a man close behind who stabbed the child, police and prosecutors said.
The child’s mother flagged down an ambulance, said Los Angeles Police Capt. Jorge Rodriguez. Ruby was taken to a hospital where she died.
Witnesses told police that man accused of being the attacker -- authorities identified Ricardo Augusto Utuy, a 34-year-old Latino, as the suspect in the killing -- would sometimes talk and laugh to himself, Rodriguez said.
“He would do certain things that would lead them to believe he was not all there,” Rodriguez said.

Rosario Torres, a 1-year-old Latina, was stabbed to death Friday, Oct. 21, in the 13100 block of Van Owen in North Hollywood, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
About 11 a.m., Noe Torres, a 48-year-old Latino, stabbed his daughter in front of family members inside their apartment, said Los Angeles Police Capt. Stephen Carmona.
Torres then set a small fire, stabbed himself and jumped out a back window. When police arrived, a kitchen knife was still in his body.
Torres, who also had a knife in his waistband, refused to comply with officer’s commands, Carmona said.
Police subdued Torres with a Taser and beanbag rounds, Carmona said.

Alan Michael Romero, a 1-year-old white baby, died Monday, Oct. 3, after he was struck in the head in the 18400 block of Hurley Street in the South San Jose Hills area of the San Gabriel Valley, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
Romero’s mother, a 21-year-old white woman, took him to a hospital on Sept. 30 because he was “acting weird,” according a coroner’s records.
The toddler had multiple bruises on his body, said Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Sgt. Marcelo Quintero, but doctors determined that his immediate problem was a brain injury. The boy was pronounced dead at 1:19 p.m. on Oct. 3. Coroner's records say the cause of death was abusive head trauma.

Shane Ventanilla, an 8-week-old Asian boy, was fatally stabbed Tuesday, Sept. 13, in the 1500 block of Park Avenue in Long Beach, according to the Los Angeles County coroner’s office.
The boy’s father found Shane and his mother, Charlene Ventanilla, with multiple stab wounds and alerted authorities about 6:30 a.m., said Marlene Arrona, a spokeswoman for the Long Beach Police Department.
When officers arrived, the mother and young child were unconscious and not breathing, police said. Both were pronounced dead at 6:45 a.m., according to coroner's records.
Officers later determined that Charlene Ventanilla, 36, killed her child before taking her own life, according to a police statement. Police are investigating what triggered the killing, Arrona said.

Jennabel Anaya, a 4-year-old Latina, died Sunday, Aug. 7, after she was shot in the intersection of East 9th Street and Locust Avenue in Long Beach, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
City and county authorities announced Friday a $40,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person who killed Anaya and her mother, Carina Mancera, 26.
The girl was walking home from the grocery store with her mother and father, Luis Anaya, on Aug. 6, when a man approached the family about 10:20 p.m. and began shooting, according to Long Beach Police Sgt. Robert Woods.
Mancera, 26, was pronounced dead at the scene at 10:27 p.m., according to coroner’s records. Jennabel was taken to a nearby hospital, where she was pronounced dead at 12:01 a.m. Aug. 7, according to coroner’s records.

Sebastian Landa, a 21-day-old Latino, died Saturday, July 16, after he was beaten in the 7100 block of Makee Avenue in the Florence-Firestone neighborhood of South Los Angeles, according to authorities.
Landa, who was born on June 25, was taken to a hospital with multiple blunt force injuries about 4:30 p.m. Thursday, July 14, said Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Lt. John Corina.
His mother, Calixta Landa, 21, told doctors that her baby had fallen, but doctors told investigators that the injuries looked more like physical abuse, Corina said.
Landa later told investigators that she hit her baby earlier that day and then took him to the hospital, Corina said.
“She admitted to being frustrated,” he said. “The baby was crying. She got frustrated and then she got physical with the baby, and the baby ended up with blunt force trauma.”

Salvador Esparza III, a Latino 4-year-old, died Wednesday, July 6, after he was shot in the 300 block of Figueroa Drive in Altadena, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
About 10:30 p.m. on July 5, Salvador had just stepped onto the front porch of a home his family was visiting when he was wounded along with a 27-year-old man, Lt. John Corina with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said.
Deputies were flagged down after the shooting and led to the home, according to a news release from the department.
Salvador, who lived in Monrovia, was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead at 12:19 a.m. the next morning, according to coroner’s records.

Natalie Vega, a 3-year-old Latina, died Thursday, June 16, after she was put in a burning car in the 300 block of West 124th Street in the Willowbrook neighborhood of Los Angeles, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
Vega was at Athens Park with her mother, Vanessa Ibarra, a 25-year-old Latina from Los Angeles, about 9:43 p.m., said Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Lt. John Corina.
Ibarra had been living with family in the area off and on but recently had been living out of her SUV with her daughter, Corina said.
That evening in the park, Ibarra set her SUV on fire, Corina said. According to witnesses, Ibarra kept getting in and out of the car, as people shouted at her to get away.

Maliaya Tademy, a 2-year-old black girl, was fatally stabbed Monday, May 2, in the 3500 block of Arlington Avenue in Jefferson Park, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
Shortly before 10 p.m., officers from the Los Angeles Police Department responded to a call of a battery at a home and found Ebony Epps, 22, and her daughter, Maliaya, inside with multiple stab wounds, police said.
Both were taken to a hospital, where the child was pronounced dead.
Epps, who is pregnant, remains hospitalized. The unborn child is expected to survive.
The suspect in the stabbing, Lataz Gray, a 22-year-old black man, had been dating Epps for about six months. Gray moved into the home about a month ago, and is not Maliaya's father, police told The Times.

Baby Kirkendall-Sosa, a 9-week-old fetus, died April 16, after its mother was shot in the 3000 block of 70th Street in Long Beach, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.
Investigators found the mother, Adrianna Aryanna Kirkendall-Sosa, a 20-year-old Latina, in the passenger seat of her boyfriend's parked car about 10 a.m., said Los Angeles County Sheriff's Lt. Eddie Hernandez.
Kirkendall-Sosa had a gunshot wound to the back of her head, Hernandez said. She was pronounced dead at the scene at 10:13 a.m., according to coroner's records.
Her boyfriend, Jose Jesus Rivera-Olivarez, a 35-year-old Latino, had been found dead earlier that morning, about 50 yards from the car, Hernandez said.

Aiden Matthew Lopez, a 5-month-old Latino, died Saturday, March 26, after he was beaten in the 43400 block of Gadsden Avenue in Lancaster, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
On March 22, the baby's parents left for work and left him in the care of a family friend who had been working as their babysitter for about eight weeks, said Los Angeles County Sheriff's Lt. Eddie Hernandez.
When the baby’s mother came home from work about 6 p.m., the babysitter asked her to come look at the boy and said, “I don’t think he’s breathing,” Hernandez said.
The mother grabbed her son and called 911, Hernandez said. The baby was taken to a hospital and treated for serious head trauma, bruising on his upper torso and a possible broken arm, Hernandez said.

Kellyane Tonyebell, a one-month-old black girl, died Friday, March 4, of a drug overdose in the 13000 block of Los Angeles Street in Baldwin Park, according to the Los Angeles County coroner’s office.
At about 5:30 a.m., the girl's mother saw that the baby was not breathing, according to L.A. County Sheriff's Lt. Joe Mendoza.
The mother then attempted CPR and called 911. Paramedics took the girl to a hospital where she was pronounced dead at 6:28 a.m., according to coroner’s records.
The cause of death was not clear at the time, Mendoza said. In late June, deputies received the toxicology report from the coroner; it said Kellyane died of an antihistamine overdose.
Detectives are trying speak to the mother, but Mendoza said she is out of the country.
