Rosario Torres, a 1-year-old Latina, was stabbed to death Friday, Oct. 21, in the 13100 block of Van Owen in North Hollywood, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
About 11 a.m., Noe Torres, a 48-year-old Latino, stabbed his daughter in front of family members inside their apartment, said Los Angeles Police Capt. Stephen Carmona.
Torres then set a small fire, stabbed himself and jumped out a back window. When police arrived, a kitchen knife was still in his body.
Torres, who also had a knife in his waistband, refused to comply with officer’s commands, Carmona said.
Police subdued Torres with a Taser and beanbag rounds, Carmona said.

Mohammed Kalam, a 61-year-old man from Bangladesh, died Sunday, Sept. 25, after he was shot in the 12600 block of Sherman Way in North Hollywood, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.
Shortly before midnight on Sept. 24, Kalam was working at the A & D Liquor Mart when two people walked in and demanded money, said Los Angeles Police Det. Steve Castro. Kalam refused to give the thieves money and was shot.
Kalam, a father, was pronounced dead at the scene at 12:12 the next morning, according to coroner's records.
The thieves fled in a car.

James Thomas Miller, a 54-year-old white man, died a week after he being shot on Wednesday, April 20, in the 11600 block of West Hamlin Street in Valley Glen, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
About 9:05 p.m., Miller was with a woman at his home when a man arrived and chased him outside and down the driveway, LAPD Det. Rich Wheeler said.
The man, later identified as James Phillip Anderson, a 50-year-old Asian man, shot Miller in the back, Wheeler said.
Anderson was jealous of Miller’s relationship with the woman, Wheeler said. Each of the men believed they were dating her, he said.
Miller was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead seven days later, on April 27, according to coroner’s records.

Aaron George Sneed, a 33-year-old black man, died Friday, July 18, days after he was stabbed in the 13600 block of Vanowen Street in Valley Glen, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
Sneed was at his apartment on July 10 when he got into a dispute with another man about 6 p.m. Sneed was stabbed during the argument, said LAPD Det. Rob Bub. Bub said it is unclear what the argument was about.
Sneed was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead on July 18 at 12:27 a.m., according to coroner’s records.

Abraham Saldinas, a 38-year-old Latino, was shot and killed Thursday, May 29, in the 7300 block of Fulton Avenue in Valley Glen, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
About 6 a.m., Saldinas got into an argument with another man, said Los Angeles Police Det. Richard Wheeler.
Saldinas got into his white Ford utility truck and rear-ended the other man’s van several times. The man armed himself with .45-caliber pistol and fired several rounds at Saldinas, Wheeler said.
Saldinas was pronounced dead at 6:22 a.m. at the scene, according to coroner’s records.
Detectives discovered that Saldinas had previously threatened the other man, identified at 53-year-old Richard Field, who is white, with a large construction crowbar. Rosbita Toledo Varsena, a 39-year-old Latina, died Saturday, March 1, after she was stabbed in the 7100 block of Coldwater Canyon Avenue in Valley Glen, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
Family members found Varsena in a home and called police, said Ed Winter, the assistant chief of investigations for the coroner’s office.
Varsena was pronounced dead at 11:15 a.m., Winter said.
Detectives are looking for Herman Escobar Archila, described as a person of interest in Versena’s death.

Ricardo Zetino, a 31-year-old white man, was shot and killed Saturday, Jan. 25, in the 5800 block of Fulton Avenue in Valley Glen, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
Shortly before 7:30 p.m., Zetino was discovered by Los Angeles police officers outside of a vehicle in the parking lot of L.A. Valley College with multiple gunshot wounds.
Zetino was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 8:05 p.m., said Ed Winter, a coroner’s spokesman. An autopsy showed that Zetino died of a gunshot wound to the chest.
Investigators believe the shooting was the result of a drug deal "ripoff" and the setting of the college parking lot was a random meeting spot. Classes and campus activities were not in session when the shooting occurred.

Alexander Nestoiter, a 49-year-old white man, was shot and killed by police Thursday, Oct. 18, in the 13800 block of Oxnard Street in Valley Glen, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.
Police said they received a call about 1:30 p.m. about a man wielding a knife or machete. When they arrived on the scene, police said they discovered Nestoiter armed with a pistol, and they shot and killed him.
The shooting was the second officer-involved shooting in the San Fernando Valley in a 24-hour period.
Police are still investigating the incident.

Francisco Batres-Lopez, a 29-year-old Latino, was stabbed to death Saturday, Feb. 4, in the east side of Tujunga Wash, south of Victory Boulevard in Valley Glen, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.
Batres-Lopez had been stabbed in the chest, according to Los Angeles Police Sgt. Trina Bluff of the Van Nuys station.
Authorities were called, and Batres-Lopez was pronounced dead at the scene.
The victim is believed to be a transient who lived in the area, Bluff said.
There have been 33 homicides within two miles of Victory Boulevard and Ethel Avenue since 2007, according to The Times’ Homicide Report.

Carlos Ibanez, a 28-year-old Latino, died Tuesday, Jan. 4, three days after he was shot in the 6200 block of Babcock Avenue in Valley Glen, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.
Ed Winter, spokesman for the coroner's office, said Ibanez was standing outside of a party with some friends on Jan. 1 about 10:50 p.m. when a vehicle drove up and a person inside shot at the crowd.
Paramedics were called, and Ibanez was taken to a hospital in Mission Hills, where he remained until his death on Jan. 4 at 8:43 p.m. According to coroner's records, he had gunshot wounds to his torso and extremities.
During the shooting, other people were hit by gunfire, Winter said, but they survived.

Davit Khacikyan, identified by the coroner's office as a 27-year-old white man, was fatally shot Monday, Dec. 6, in the 6400 block of North Coldwater Canyon in Valley Glen, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.
Khacikyan and another man were in a McDonald's parking lot about 2 a.m. when they were approached by several men in more than one car, officials said.
After a verbal dispute, one man pulled out a handgun and fired several rounds at Khacikyan and the man he was with, striking both multiple times, police said. They were taken to a nearby hospital, where Khacikyan was pronounced dead. The other man was listed in critical condition, authorities said.
No arrests have been made in the shooting, and investigators have not determined whether it was gang-related, said Lt. Brian Wendling of the Los Angeles Police Department.
