Eddy Marshall Lewis Jr., a 28-year-old black man, was shot and killed Saturday, Oct. 25, in the 8300 block of South Hoover Street in Vermont Knolls, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
About 12:30 a.m., Lewis was dropping a friend off and stopped his green midsized car, according to police. As his friend, a 33-year-old man, got out of the car, gunfire erupted from the sidewalk. The friend was wounded but ran and called 911 at a nearby residence, police said in a news release.
Lewis was wounded while still in the car, and his vehicle rolled until it stopped at a curb. Lewis was pronounced dead at 12:38 a.m. at the scene, according to coroner’s records.
The friend was not able to see anyone before the shooting, but police said that the gunman was standing near the sidewalk.

Patricia Alfaro, a 17-year-old Latina, died Tuesday, Sept. 9, six days after she was shot near South Vermont Avenue and West Manchester Avenue in Vermont Knolls, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
Shortly before 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 3, Alfaro was in a vehicle with at least one other person traveling south on South Vermont Avenue when they became involved in an argument with a person driving a dark-colored four-door sedan, according to a news release from the Los Angeles Police Department.
As the vehicles continued south on South Vermont Avenue, a third vehicle, described as a light-colored SUV, fired multiple rounds into the vehicle Alfaro was in.
Alfaro and a 24-year-old man were struck by gunfire. In an effort to get away from the gunman, the two drove to the 700 block of West 77th Street and called 911.

Alphonse Edward Perkins, a 50-year-old black man, was killed in an officer-involved shooting with a Los Angeles Police Department officer Monday, Sept. 8, in Vermont Knolls, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
About 2 a.m., patrol officers responded to a domestic violence call at a home in the 1100 block of West 81st Place, according to a news release from the LAPD. The 911 operator said that gunshots were heard in the background.
When officers arrived, they were confronted by Perkins, who allegedly fired a gun. “An officer-involved shooting” occurred, according to the release.
Perkins was pronounced dead at the scene at 2:38 a.m., said Ed Winter, the assistant chief of the coroner’s office.
A handgun was recovered at the scene. Inside the home, officers found a woman who had been shot in the shoulder. She was taken to a hospital and is expected to survive.

Felton Millage Jr., a 47-year-old black man, was shot and killed Thursday, Aug. 7, in the 500 block of West 74th Street in Vermont Knolls, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
Millage was standing in the driveway of a two-story home with a group of men shortly after 8:15 p.m., when a black man in his early 20s approached and pulled out a gun, said LAPD Det. Sal LaBarbera.
The gunman struck Millage and a 38-year-old man.
Millage was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead at 8:50 p.m., said Ed Winter, a coroner’s spokesman.
The 38-year-old was in stable but critical condition, LaBarbera said.
The gunman fled east on West 74th Street.
At the shooting site the next morning, a woman named Tisha who declined to give her last name pointed to the side of the home, riddled with five bullet holes.

Calvin Eugene Gray, a 33-year-old black man, was fatally shot Tuesday, July 29, in the 1000 block of West 76th Street in Vermont Knolls, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
About 8:30 p.m., Los Angeles police officers responded to a call of a shooting in the area, according to a news release from the department. When officers arrived, they found a man, later identified as Gray, suffering from gunshot wounds inside his vehicle.
Gray was pronounced dead at 8:41 p.m. at the scene, according to coroner’s records.
Gray was a security officer with the County Services Bureau. He joined the department in October 2010, according to an online obituary.
Local television stations reported that Gray was dropping off a relative in the area at the time of the shooting.

White was standing outside a home about 9:45 p.m. when he was approached by two black men, said LAPD Det. Sal LaBarbera. One of the men said “What’s up man,” and another man pulled out a gun and began shooting at White.
The two men got into a dark-colored sedan and drove east on West 79th Street toward Hoover Street, LaBarbera said.
White was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead at 10:43 p.m., according to coroner’s records.

About 4:30 p.m., Barner was standing in front of a home when at least two black men standing on the other side of the street walked to the middle of the road and began to shoot, said LAPD Det. Sal LaBarbera.
The men left in a compact or mid-sized gold vehicle driven by a third person, LaBarbera said.
The vehicle went west on West 79th Street. Barner was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead at 5:01 p.m., said Ed Winter, a coroner’s spokesman.

Matthew Sims, a 42-year-old black man, was shot and killed Wednesday, April 9, in the 500 block of West 76th Street in Vermont Knolls, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
Sims was in an alley about 6:45 p.m. when he was approached one or two people, said Los Angeles Police Det. Sal LaBarbera.
Words were exchanged and witnesses told police that they heard more than one gunshot, LaBarbera said.
Sims was pronounced dead at the scene at 6:57 p.m., said coroner’s spokesman Ed Winter.

Christopher Wayne Richardson, a 22-year-old black man, died Wednesday, March 19, nearly two weeks after he was shot in the 800 block of West 82nd Street in Vermont Knolls, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
Richardson was standing in front of a residence on March 6 about 1:05 p.m. when at least two black males drove by and a person shot at him from a light-colored or silver sedan, said LAPD Det. Sal LaBarbera.
Richardson was struck and taken to a hospital. He remained hospitalized until March 19, when he was pronounced dead at 8:06 p.m., according to coroner’s records.
The shooting was related to a Crips gang feud in the area. Earlier that day, Douglas Henry Wooley was killed.
