Eduardo Solis, a 4-month-old Latino baby, died Thursday, April 7, in the 8700 block of Beverly Boulevard in Beverly Grove, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

[Editor's note: This death was first reported by the coroner in April, but a determination that the cause was homicide was not made until later. The Times added it to the Homicide Report after that confirmation.]

Ed Winter, spokesman for the coroner's office, said Eduardo was in the care of his father when he was discovered limp and unresponsive.

The baby was taken to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center where he displayed seizure-like activity and a subdural hematoma was diagnosed, Winter said.

A CAT scan revealed the infant suffered cerebral edema, and he was declared brain dead.

According to coroner's records, the child died from blunt head trauma, and his death was ruled a homicide.

Samantha Sproson, a 38-year-old white woman, was shot and killed Saturday, Dec. 31, in the 700 block of Manhattan Avenue in Hermosa Beach, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

Witnesses summoned police to Sproson's apartment about 5 a.m., reporting an argument followed by a gunshot, police said. On arrival, police detained a man outside the building and then went inside the apartment, where they found Sproson dead.

Coroner's records show she died from a gunshot wound to the head.

Detectives from the Hermosa Beach Police Department and the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department are conducting an investigation. A police spokeswoman said no further details were available.

Robert Barlow Jr., a 27-year-old black man, was shot and killed Friday, Dec. 30, in the 2000 block of North Santa Fe Avenue in Lynwood, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

Officers responded to a 911 call, and Barlow was pronounced dead at the scene at 9:21 p.m., authorities said. According to coroner’s records, Berry was shot multiple times in his torso.

“The victim was at the location socializing,” said Sheriff’s homicide Det. D. Retzlaff, who is handling the investigation.

Detectives are currently working the case and have not determined if the shooting was gang-related, she said.

Officials did not provide additional information about the killing.

Bernardino Gomez Jr., a 46-year-old Latino, was shot and killed Friday, Dec. 30, in the 9900 block of Painter Avenue in Santa Fe Springs, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

Sheriff’s officials responded to radio calls about 1:40 a.m., authorities said. Gomez was pronounced dead at the scene. According to coroner’s records, he died from a gunshot to the chest.

There were no witnesses on the street where the shooting occurred, said Santa Fe Springs Police Det. R. Wolfe. Investigators said Gomez appeared to have had gang-affiliations.

The investigation is ongoing, Wolfe said, and no arrests have been made in connection with the case. Officials did not provide additional information about the shooting.

Zachary Fellows, a 19-year-old white man, was fatally shot Thursday, Dec. 29, in the 4500 block of Rosecrans Boulevard in West Compton, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

Authorities say Fellows was walking along a sidewalk with a woman about 7:45 p.m. when the shooter drove alongside them in a midsize sport-utility vehicle.

“The driver got out, confronted the victim, fired several shots, then got back in the vehicle and fled the scene,” said Sheriff's Deputy Benjamin Grubb.

Fellows was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead, Grubb said. The woman walking with the victim was unharmed.

No arrests have been made. The shooting was possibly gang-related, officials said.

Carey Snyder, a 63-year-old white man, was stabbed to death Thursday, Dec. 29, in the 5800 block of North Figueroa Street in Highland Park, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

A security guard on patrol found Snyder with multiple stab wounds outside a strip mall about 12:55 a.m., said Los Angeles Police Department spokesman Bruce Borihanh.

Paramedics were called and pronounced Snyder dead at the scene.

No one saw the assailant, and it was unknown what the motive for the killing might have been, Borihanh said.

The victim appeared to be a transient, he said.

James Hill, a 45-year-old black man, died Wednesday, Dec. 28, after he was fatally shot in the 10800 block of Grand Avenue in Vermont Vista, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

Hill was taken to Harbor-UCLA Medical Center in Torrance and pronounced dead at 7:38 p.m., coroner's officials said. Records show he suffered several gunshot wounds to his body.

The coroner's office could not provide additional information about the killing.

Michelia Williams, a 52-year-old black woman, was shot and killed Wednesday, Dec. 28, in the 2000 block of East Shauer Street in Willowbrook, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

Authorities responded to a shooting call about 3:15 p.m., said Deputy Lillian Peck of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

Three people, including Williams, were injured and taken to a hospital, where Williams was pronounced dead. Peck said the condition of the other victims was not available.

According to coroner's records, Williams died from a gunshot wound to the upper torso.

Homicide detectives were sent to the scene. No additional information was immediately available.

Robert La Rue, a 48-year-old white man, was fatally shot by sheriff’s deputies Tuesday, Dec. 27, in the 29300 block of Golden Meadow Drive in Rancho Palos Verdes, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

Deputies responded to a home after reports that La Rue had assaulted his 85-year-old father.

The son called the Sheriff's Department and warned that he had a high-powered rifle and handgun, and then repeated the threat to the responding deputies, said sheriff's Capt. Mike Parker.

La Rue refused to cooperate with the deputies and then took up a shooting stance with a metal object, leading deputies to shoot him for their own protection, Parker said. The metal object recovered next to La Rue was a knife, Parker said.

Edward Santana, a 43-year-old Latino, was fatally shot Tuesday, Dec. 27, in the 1900 block of North Marengo Avenue in Pasadena, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

Police responded to reports of gunshots about 6 a.m. and discovered Santana's body near Dearborn Street and North Marengo Avenue, said Lt. Pete Hettema of the Pasadena Police Department.

“We went out and found this deceased male in the street with at least one gunshot wound,” Hettema said.

Hettema said no arrests have been made.

Andre Lockhart, a 28-year-old black man, was shot and killed Tuesday, Dec. 27, near 55th Street and Normandie Avenue in Vermont-Slauson, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

Authorities responded to a radio call at 2:20 p.m., and Lockhart was transported to California Hospital Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 8:55 p.m., officials said.

According to coroner’s records, he died from gunshots to his head and leg.

A 16-year-old man was also shot but is in stable condition, officials said.

The shooting, which was a drive-by, appears to be gang-related, said LAPD Criminal Gang Homicide Det. Stacey Szymkowiak. Lockhart was a documented gang-member, she said, but added that the other victim, a friend of Lockhart’s, was not heavily documented with any gang affiliation.

Investigators are pursuing good leads, she said, but no arrests have been made. Officials did not provide additional information about the case.

Min Yin, a 75-year-old Asian man, died Monday, Dec. 26, three months after he was stabbed in the 1300 block of East 18th Street in downtown, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

Officials responded to a 911 call at 8:19 a.m. on Sept. 2, when a robbery occurred at a manufacturing plant. A struggle ensued with the perpetrators, in which Yin, an employee at the business, was stabbed, said LAPD Robbery Homicide Det. J. Guerra.

According to coroner’s records, Yin died from a stab wound to his abdomen. He was pronounced dead at 9:55 p.m., Dec. 26, at L.A. County-USC Medical Center.

No arrests have been made in connection with the incident. Officials did not provide additional information about the case.

Ramona Matsuo, an almost 2-month-old black baby girl, died from starvation Saturday, Sept. 17, in the 11600 block of Imperial Highway in Norwalk, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.

Paramedics were called, and Ramona was taken to a hospital in Downey, where she was pronounced dead at 2:37 a.m.

According to coroner’s records, Ramona died from starvation and malnutrition. The baby was full term, but weighed 6 pounds at death and had never been to a pediatrician, coroner’s officials said.

Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department detectives are investigating the homicide and did not release any additional information.

Juan Garcia, a 30-year-old Latino, was shot and killed Monday, Dec. 26, in the 100 block of West 85th Street in Florence, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

Garcia was standing in the street about 8:45 a.m. when a man riding a bicycle approached and confronted him, said Los Angeles police Sgt. Mitzi Fierro.

The man on the bicycle then fired two shots, hitting Garcia, Fierro said. The victim was taken to a local hospital, where he died.

Fierro said police had detained three potential suspects for questioning. No other information was immediately available.

Eva Alta Tice, a 60-year-old white woman, was stabbed to death Saturday, Dec. 24, in the 1100 block of South Pacific Avenue in San Pedro, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

Passersby found Tice lying on the sidewalk in front of a building about 7:15 p.m., authorities said. She had been stabbed in the chest multiple times. The passersby told police they had seen several men running from the area.
