Siaosi M. Mafileo, a 28-year-old Pacific Islander, was fatally shot Saturday, Sept. 20, in the 4000 block of 138th Street in Hawthorne, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
Mafileo was standing in front of a home shortly after 3 a.m. when he was shot, according to coroner’s records. Mafileo was pronounced dead at 3:28 a.m. in the street.

David Ng, a 24-year-old Asian man, was shot and killed Thursday, Aug. 14, in the 800 block of West 64th Street in Vermont-Slauson, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
A person in the area called police after discovering Ng on the street suffering from gunshot wounds, said LAPD Det. Sal LaBarbera.
Detectives believe Ng may have been killed in a robbery. LaBarbera declined to say what might have been taken from the man.
Ng was pronounced dead at the scene at 11:36 a.m., said Ed Winter, the assistant chief of investigations at the coroner’s office.

Olataga P. Filemoni Jr., a 25-year-old Samoan, died Monday, July 28, three days after he was shot in the 3200 block of Baltic Avenue in Long Beach, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
Shortly before 11 p.m. on July 25, Filemoni and some friends were sitting in front of a home when a vehicle drove by and a person inside fired at the group, according to a news release from the Long Beach Police Department.
The vehicle fled north on Baltic Avenue. Police did not say if anyone else was injured.
Filemoni was hit in the torso and taken to a hospital where he was listed in critical condition, according to police. He was pronounced dead at 3:26 p.m. on July 28, said Ed Winter, a spokesman for the coroner’s office.

Xinran Ji, a 24-year-old Chinese man, was fatally assaulted July 24 near West 29th Street and Orchard Avenue in University Park, according to police.
Police said they believe that Ji, an engineering student, was walking home from a study group about 12:45 a.m. when he was assaulted. Ji was hit with a blunt object but managed to get back to his apartment, where his body was found later that morning by his roommate.
Detectives determined that Ji had been attacked earlier in part because of a “significant amount of blood” they followed from his apartment to the scene of the assault, said an LAPD official familiar with the investigation.
Ji may have tried to get away from his attackers after the beating began but was assaulted a second time, law enforcement sources said.

Viengkham Hansaya, a 48-year-old Asian man, was fatally stabbed June 5 in the 1200 block of East Imperial Highway in Watts, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
Hansaya was standing in front of an apartment building shortly after midnight when a person walked up and stabbed him in the upper torso and back, Los Angeles Police Det. Sal LaBarbera said.
When Hansaya was stabbed, he tried to run but fell to the ground, LaBarbera said.
Hansaya was pronounced dead at the scene at 12:35 a.m., according to coroner’s records.

John Konelio Tagoai, a 29-year-old Samoan, was shot and killed Friday, May 30, in the 100 block of Colden Avenue in Broadway-Manchester, according to police and Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
Tagoai was standing with about six other people in a driveway about 10:30 p.m. when a black man walked up and shot into the group, said Los Angeles police Det. Sal LaBarbera. The gunman then ran west on West Colden Avenue toward South Broadway, LaBarbera said.
Tagoai was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead at 11:52 p.m., said Ed Winter, a coroner’s spokesman.
No one else was injured in the shooting, LaBarbera said. Police believe that Tagoai was the intended target.

Eddie Phongsavad, a 45-year-old Asian man, was fatally shot by Los Angeles police Sunday, April 13, in the 5200 block of Sunset Boulevard in East Hollywood, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
Shortly after 3:30 p.m., officers responded to a call of vandalism at a 99 Cents Only Store, according to a news release from the Los Angeles Police Department. Before the officers arrived, they were told that the man had a knife.
When officers arrived, they saw a man, later identified as Phongsavad, with a knife outside the store.
“The suspect confronted officers, and an officer-involved shooting occurred,” according to the release. The release did not say whether both officers shot at Phongsavad.
The Los Angeles Fire Department responded and pronounced Phongsavad dead at the scene at 4 p.m., according to coroner’s records.
The LAPD’s Force Investigation Division responded and is handling the investigation.

Kurtland Ma, a 34-year-old Asian man, was stabbed to death Saturday, March 29, in the 900 block of Palm Avenue in West Hollywood, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
Deputies responded to an apartment to perform a welfare check and were told that the person who lived there may have killed his roommate and was thinking about killing himself, according to a news release from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
Deputies forced their way into the apartment after no response and found Ma on the kitchen floor with stab wounds, according to the news release.
Ma was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics at 6:53 p.m., said Ed Winter, a coroner's spokesman.

Shailo Ikegasio Leafa, a 21-year-old Samoan man, was shot and killed Wednesday, March 5, near West 259th Street and South Western Avenue in Harbor City, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
Leafa and two other men were sitting near a parking lot about 9:40 p.m. when a person walked up and fired several rounds, striking Leafa and another man, according to a news release from the Los Angeles Police Department.
The gunman was with at least one other person, said LAPD Det. Julie Scruggs.
Leafa was taken to a hospital where he died at 10:22 p.m., said Ed Winter, a coroner’s spokesman. An autopsy showed that Leafa died from a gunshot wound, Winter said.

Kedong Yang, a 51-year-old Asian man, was killed Wednesday, March 5, in the 500 block of North Florence Avenue in Monterey Park, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
Officers from the Monterey Park Police Department went to a home about 3:40 a.m. regarding a disturbance between roommates, said Lt. Holly Francisco with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, which is handling the homicide investigation.
Yang was found unconscious on the ground, and was pronounced dead at the scene at 4:10 a.m., according to coroner’s records. He died of multiple traumatic injuries, including being kicked in the head, according to coroner’s records.
Yao Zhong Shi, a 59-year-old Asian man, was arrested on suspicion of murder March 5.

Reynaldo Tiria Yandan, a 60-year-old Filipino man, was found dead Tuesday, March 4, after he was shot in the 10400 block of Plainview Avenue in Tujunga, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
After Yandan didn’t show up to work, a co-worker went to his home and found Yandan’s body, said LAPD Det. Anthony Stephenson.
Paramedics who came to the scene pronounced Yandan dead at 3:50 p.m., said Ed Winter, a coroner’s spokesman. An autopsy showed that Yandan died from multiple gunshot wounds.
Police believe that Yandan was killed on March 1. According to surveillance video, Yandan was seen entering his home around noon on that day.
