Luis Saldana, a 28-year-old Latino, died Sunday, April 2, after he was shot and run over in the 12700 block of South Avalon Boulevard in South Los Angeles neighborhood of Willowbrook, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records. 

Saldana was driving north on Avalon Boulevard, with his wife in the front passenger seat, when a black Honda ran into the back of their car shortly after midnight, said Los Angeles County Sheriff's Lt. Steve Jauch. 

Investigators believe that the black Honda was in a race with another vehicle when the crash occurred, Jauch said. 

The accident was minor, Jauch said, but almost immediately after the crash, two men got out of the Honda and began fighting with Saldana. "They were punching him, striking him with their fists," Jauch said.

Yancy Dayanara Alachan-Cruz, a 42-year-old Latina, died on Sunday, April 2, after being shot in the 6300 block of Pacific Boulevard in Huntington Park, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records. 

That Saturday night, Alachan-Cruz had been at the Margarita Jones nightclub at 6341 Pacific Blvd., according to Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Lt. Steve Jauch. 

She left the club in a car with three Latino friends at about 2 a.m. Sunday, heading north on Pacific. They stopped at a red light at Clarendon Avenue, and a dark-colored vehicle pulled up on the right side of their car, beside Alachan-Cruz in the front passenger seat, Jauch said. 

Someone in the dark vehicle began shooting into the other car and Alachan-Cruz was struck in the head, Jauch said. The driver was struck in the right arm, and bullets grazed a back-seat passenger in the head and leg. A passenger sitting behind the …

Cristian Frank Sanchez, a 20-year-old Latino, was shot and killed on Saturday, April 1, in the 2600 block of Calle Martos in Duarte, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records. 

Neighbors called Los Angeles County Sheriff’s deputies about 4:20 p.m. to report a possible burglary at a vacant house, said Lt. Joe Mendoza. The house had been vacant for some time, Mendoza said, but neighbors heard voices around the property so they called 911. 

When deputies arrived, they found Sanchez inside the house with a gunshot wound to the chest, Mendoza said. Sanchez, a resident of La Puente, was pronounced dead at the scene at  5:37 p.m., according to coroner’s records. 

Investigators believe Sanchez had been shot a short time before he was found but they don’t have any suspect information or a motive, Mendoza said. Neighbors didn’t hear any shots, Mendoza said. “They heard the voices, but no gunfire.” …

Kelly Renee Clark, a 38-year-old black woman, was fatally shot Saturday, April 1, in the 200 block of West Washington Boulevard in Pasadena, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.

Pasadena police out on patrol were flagged down about 10 p.m. by someone in the area who heard shots fired at a residence, according to a news release. Police searched the home and found Clark with a gunshot wound. She was pronounced dead at the scene at 11:11 p.m., according to coroner’s records.

A subsequent investigation revealed that two men who lived at the house were in an argument and produced hand guns. Felipe Moore and Andrew Raymond Moore, 55, who are not related, opened fire on each other, and one of the bullets struck Clark, the release said. 

The guns were recovered at the scene. and Andrew Moore was arrested on suspicion of murder. He was released after the …

Francisco Gomez, a 41-year-old Latino, was shot and killed Saturday,  April 1, in the 5100 block of Venice Boulevard in Mid-City, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.

Police responded about 2 a.m. to a call of a shooting inside a home in the area, according to a news release from the Los Angeles Police Department.

Officers found Gomez inside with gunshot wounds. Gomez was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 2:50 a.m., according to coroner’s records.

Witnesses told police that a group of men had been drinking inside a home when a person opened fire, killing Gomez.

Whitney Henry Yorke, a 32-year-old black man, was shot and killed Friday, March 31, in the 3100 block of 8th Avenue in Jefferson Park, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.

Yorke was sitting in folding chair in front of a home with a friend about 6:15 p.m., said Los Angeles Police Det. Dave Garrido.

Three men walked up and fired multiple gunshots, striking Yorke, Garrido said. The suspects then fled on foot.

Yorke was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 6:58 p.m., according to coroner’s records.

Police believe the shooting is related to recent gang activity in the area.

Maria Valenzuela, an 82-year-old Latina, died on Thursday, March 30, after she was stabbed in the 37000 block of Springfield Street in Palmdale, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records. 

Deputies were called to Valenzuela’s home about 3:30 p.m. regarding an assault that had just occurred, according to Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Sgt. Troy Ewing. 

En route, the deputies saw a man walking down the street, covered in blood, Ewing said. The deputies detained the man, who said he had been involved in the incident they were investigating, Ewing said. 

The man, later identified as Richard Flores, 29, was Valenzuela’s grandson, Ewing said. 

When investigators got to the house, they found Valenzuela and her daughter, Flores’ mother, with multiple stab wounds. 

Valenzuela was pronounced dead at the scene at 3:40 p.m., according to coroner’s records. The cause of death was listed as multiple sharp force injuries to her face and …

Rodney Sherin Johnson, a 48-year-old black man, was shot and killed on Thursday, March 30, in the 400 block of North Wilmington Avenue in Compton, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records. 

Johnson had an address in Gardena, but he had been living in his van in the residential area of Compton where he died, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Sgt. Troy Ewing said. 

Johnson had been talking with a friend at West Brazil Street and North Wilmington Avenue near where he parked his van. At 7:49 p.m., as he was returning from his visit, a man ran up and shot him several times, Ewing said. 

Deputies found Johnson lying in the street with multiple gunshot wounds, Ewing said. He was pronounced dead at the scene at 8 p.m., according to coroner’s records.

Alberto Guerrero-Grey, a 23-year-old Latino, was shot and killed Wednesday, March 29, near East 107th Street and Lou Dillon Avenue in Watts, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.

Guerrero-Grey was standing in the street shortly before 12:50 a.m. when he was shot, said Los Angeles Police Det. Nathan Kouri.

Police believe a gunman may have shot from a vehicle, but they have not firmed up a vehicle description.

Guerrero-Grey was pronounced dead at the scene at 1:10 a.m., according to coroner’s records.

Guerrero-Grey lived in the area and was not recently involved in activity that would make him a target, Kouri said.

Ricardo Baltazar Mota, a 33-year-old Latino, was killed Monday, March 27, after he was shot in the 800 block of North Garfield Avenue in Montebello, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records. 

Investigators think Mota met someone in the parking lot of Our Lady of Miraculous Medal Catholic Church that evening while parishioners were inside during a prayer group meeting, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Sgt. Marcelo Quintero said. 

Around 8:45 p.m., the Montebello Police Department received calls about shots fired in an area near the church, Quintero said. 

“The street is full of apartment complexes, so the officers assumed it came from one of those complexes, but they didn’t find anything,” Quintero said. “Then, a few minutes later, the parishioners came out to the parking lot and found a man slumped over in his car.”

Maria Urriola De Pastore, a 69-year-old Latina, died Monday, March 27, after being beaten in the 3600 block of West 106th Street in Inglewood, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records. 

Inglewood police responded at 12:45 p.m. to a call about a fight at a house, according to coroner’s records. They found Pastore seriously wounded. Her husband, Genaro Pastore, was bleeding from his face and unresponsive, records show.

The Pastores were transported to the hospital, where Genaro Pastore, 64, was pronounced dead at 1:18 p.m., according to coroner’s records.

Maria Pastore arrived at the hospital in critical condition and fell into a coma. She died at 1:58 p.m. March 27, coroner’s records show.

Detectives said the couple was attacked by their daughter’s ex-boyfriend, Edward Fernando Ruiz, 33. On the day of Genaro Pastore’s death, Ruiz went to his ex-girlfriend’s house and attacked her, then fled before police arrived. While the woman was transported to a hospital, Ruiz …

Fred Barragan, a 35-year-old Latino, died Saturday, March 25, after he was shot by Los Angeles police in the 2300 block of East 1st Street in Boyle Heights, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.

On Saturday March 24 at 11:56 p.m, officers from the LAPD’s Hollenbeck Division were patrolling in the area when they heard gunshots being fired near North Breed and East 1st streets. Residents also reported hearing gunshots, according to a news release from the LAPD.

The officers were trying to determine the source of the gunfire when they saw Barragan walking away from the area, which is near the Metro Gold Line station.

The officers tried to detain Barragan but he began to run away, the release said.

As officers chased Barragan, he  removed a handgun from his waistband, prompting officers to open fire, according to the release.

Joey Eduardo Oliveros, a 19-year-old Latino, was shot and killed Friday, March 24, near West 2nd Street and South La Fayette Park Place in Westlake, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.

Oliveros was standing on the corner about 2:15 p.m. with two to three other friends when a car drove up and stopped, said Los Angeles Police Det. Ray Martinez.

A person got out of the passenger side of the vehicle, asked about gang affiliation and began shooting at Oliveros, Martinez said.

The people with Oliveros ran away and were not injured. Oliveros tried to run, but collapsed on the sidewalk, Martinez said.  

The attacker got back into the black four-door sedan, which sped away, Martinez said. Oliveros was pronounced dead at the scene at 2:34 p.m., according to coroner’s records.

Detectives are looking for at least two suspects, Martinez said.
