Kenneth Steve Ojeda, a 23-year-old Latino, died Thursday, Dec. 29, after he was shot in the 9000 block of Compton Avenue in Compton, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
Before he died, Ojeda told investigators he was standing near East 91st Street and Compton Avenue shortly after 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 28, when he was approached by a Latino with a gun, said Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Lt. Steve Jauch.
The gunman shot Ojeda in the back and upper torso and then fled, Jauch said. Ojeda ran north and then west into a courtyard, where he collapsed.
Deputies who were called to the scene found him lying on the ground, Jauch said.
Ojeda was taken to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 4:28 a.m. the following day, according to coroner’s records.

Jessica Andrea Rocha, a 23-year-old Latina, was shot and killed Wednesday, Dec. 28, near North Avenue 56 and Monte Vista Street in Highland Park, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
Shortly before 11 a.m., a person walked up to Rocha and shot her, said Det. Martee Miyakawa with the Los Angeles Police Department’s Northeast Division.
Rocha was taken to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead at 2:10 p.m., according to coroner’s records.
Police believe there may have been a short conversation between Rocha and her assailant before she was shot, but it’s unknown what was said.
Witnesses told police that two people ran away toward train tracks in the area, Miyakawa said.
The woman was a former resident of the neighborhood, Miyakawa said.

Ming Huang, a 31-year-old Asian man, was shot and killed Wednesday, Dec. 28, in the 4600 block of West Olympic Boulevard in Mid-City, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
Officers responded to a shots fired call at the Los Angeles High Memorial Park and found Huang unconscious, said Los Angeles Police Det. Sean Kinchla.
Huang was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 4:45 a.m., according to coroner’s records.
Police are looking for witnesses and trying to determine why Huang was in the park.

Stephen Leonard Monasmith, a 50-year-old white male, died Tuesday, Dec. 27, after being shot near East Anaheim Street & North Broad Avenue in Wilmington, according to Los Angeles County Medical Examiner-Coroner's records.
Nickolas William Clouse, a 33-year-old white man, was shot and killed Sunday, Dec. 25, in the 10800 block of Redfern Avenue in the Lennox area south of Inglewood, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
Residents told investigators they heard multiple gunshots around 9 p.m. and that when they looked outside, they saw Clouse lying in the street, said Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Sgt. Troy Ewing.
Clouse, who had been shot, was taken to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 9:46 p.m., according to coroner’s records.
Witnesses said they saw two men running away from the scene but had no further description, Ewing said.
Clouse was affiliated with a gang that claims that residential area, Ewing said, and investigators believe the shooting may be gang-related.

Zhonghua Li, a 48-year-old Chinese man, died on Saturday, Dec. 24, after he was shot by deputies in the 3400 block of Greenglade Avenue in Pico Rivera, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
Deputies were called to Li's residence about 4:45 p.m., according to L.A. County Sheriff’s Lt. Steve Jauch.
Family members had called 911 to report that Li had a history of mental illness and was arguing with family members and attacking them with a sharp object, Jauch said.
Li stabbed one of his family members in the hand, Jauch said, but the victim refused treatment. Others in the house included Li’s father, sister and brother-in-law, he said.
When deputies arrived, Li was standing in the street, holding the object in his hand, Jauch said. Li “walked aggressively” toward the deputies, one of whom tried to stop him by shooting him with a bean bag shotgun, Jauch said. …
German Servin, a 37-year-old Latino, was fatally shot Friday, Dec. 23, in the 400 block of Harps Street in San Fernando, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
Servin, who lived in Palmdale, was visiting his brother when the shooting occurred at 2:07 p.m. in the backyard of a home in the neighborhood, said Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Sgt. Marcelo Quintero.
His younger brother was renting a room in a converted garage behind the house, Quintero said. A woman was also visiting the two men that afternoon, but investigators don’t yet know her relationship to the brothers.
San Fernando Police officers responded to a 911 call from a cellphone regarding someone in medical distress, Quintero said. The woman who called didn't know the address of where she was, so officers had difficulty finding the right location, he said.

Jose Luis Sanchez, a 30-year-old Latino, died on Friday, Dec. 23, after he was shot by police officers at the intersection of Esto Avenue and Fieldcrest Street in El Monte, according to Los Angeles County authorities.
Sanchez, who lived in San Bernardino, was driving a mid-sized SUV about 9:35 p.m. when El Monte police officers tried to stop him for a drunken driving investigation near the intersection of Valley Boulevard and Tyler Avenue, said Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Lt. Steve Jauch.
When Sanchez refused to stop, officers gave chase, pursuing him for nearly two miles, to Esto Avenue and Fieldcrest Street, Jauch said. Officers laid down spiked strips to try to stop Sanchez, but "they had no effect," Jauch said.
During the pursuit, Sanchez’s SUV collided with another vehicle at Arden Drive and Valley Boulevard, Jauch said.

Brandon Lamont Douglas, a 25-year-old black man, was shot to death Thursday, Dec. 22, in the 1200 block of North Fair Oaks Avenue in Pasadena, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.

About 9:50 p.m., Pasadena police responded to a call about gunshots, according to a news release, and found Douglas with several gunshot wounds.

Jose Guadalupe Trigueros, a 21-year-old Latino, was shot and killed on Sunday, Dec. 18, at 5 Wells Fargo Lane in Carson, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
Trigueros was walking east near his home in a gated community of apartments and condominiums when a man walked up behind him about 12:43 p.m., said Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Lt. Joe Mendoza.
The man pulled out a gun and began shooting at Trigueros, striking him multiple times in the upper torso, Mendoza said. The suspect, described as a black male in his 20s, then ran west through a walkway between two apartment buildings and out of sight.
Trigueros was taken to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead at 1:27 p.m., according to coroner’s records.

Ryan Devaughn Joseph, a 20-year-old black man, was fatally shot by Los Angeles police on Sunday, Dec. 18, in the 6000 block of South Western Avenue in Harvard Park, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
About 8:25 p.m., officers from the Los Angeles Police Department's Metro Division observed a man who held his hands near his waistband and who was believed to be carrying a weapon, said Lt. Chris Ramirez with the LAPD.
When officers approached, the man — later identified as Joseph by the coroner's office — fled and ran through an apartment building before turning north on Western toward 60th Street.
At that point, at least one officer opened fire, striking Joseph, Ramirez said.
Joseph was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Jose Rafael Raya, a 20-year-old Latino, died Saturday, Dec. 17, after he was shot at the intersection of 130th Street and Wilmington Avenue in Compton, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
Raya was in his neighborhood, driving west on 130th Street with his girlfriend in the front passenger seat, when he stopped at Wilmington Street about 6:45 p.m., said Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Lt. Steve Jauch.
It appeared that Raya was preparing to turn northbound on Wilmington when someone in a white sedan on Raya's driver’s side began shooting, Jauch said.
One bullet struck Raya in the head, and he slumped forward over the steering wheel, Jauch said. Deputies found Raya's car stopped in the street. Raya was pronounced dead at the scene at 6:57 p.m., according to coroner’s records. His girlfriend was not injured.

Fidel Jimmy Barrios, a 33-year-old Latino, died on Saturday, Dec. 17, after he was shot by deputies in the 900 block of La Verne Avenue in East Los Angeles, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies were called to Barrios’ residence about 1:05 a.m. after receiving a 911 call about a gunshot victim, said Lt. Steve Jauch.
Deputies entered the duplex where Barrios lived after people who had gathered outside told deputies that someone inside had been shot, Jauch said.
Deputies found Barrios sitting in a chair in his bedroom, bleeding from the face, Jauch said.
A shotgun was at Barrios’ feet, Jauch said.
“The deputies told him not to move, but he reached for the gun and that’s when the shooting occurred," Jauch said.
