Ian Antonio Davis-Alexander, a 23-year-old black man, died Wednesday, Dec. 30, after he was shot in the 900 block of East 120th Street in Green Meadows, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
Shortly after 6:05 p.m. on Dec. 29, Davis-Alexander was standing outside an apartment complex, LAPD Det. Dave Garrido said.
Two people walked up and opened fire, striking Davis-Alexander.
Davis-Alexander was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead Dec. 30 at 4:08 p.m.

Henry Xavier Estrada, a 27-year-old Latino, was shot and killed Sunday, Dec. 27, in the 6900 block of Camrose Drive, near North Sycamore Avenue in the Hollywood Hills, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.
Estrada and his girlfriend had gone to a rental “party house” on North Sycamore Avenue, when a man lured the couple outside via electronic communication, said LAPD Lt. John Radtke.
“They thought they were meeting someone else,” he said.
According to witnesses, the man confronted the couple when they walked outside, and then chased Estrada up Camrose Drive and shot him, Radtke said.
The man, later identified as Tien Phuong Hua, a 33-year-old Vietnamese man, then came back and tried to kidnap his former girlfriend, who police say was dating Estrada, pulling her into his car, investigators say. Hua became distracted, however, Radtke said, and the woman was able to escape before Hua drove east …
Cheyanne Donta Woods, a 29-year-old black man, was shot and killed Tuesday, Dec. 22, in the 2600 block of South Bronson Avenue in Jefferson Park, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
About 10:30 a.m., Woods was standing on a sidewalk alone when a gunman walked up and opened fire, LAPD Det. Dave Garrido said. The gunman ran back to a waiting vehicle, possibly a light-colored sedan, and fled into an alley.
Woods was pronounced dead at 10:42 a.m. at the scene, according to coroner’s records.

William Tyrone Moss, a 46-year-old black man, was shot and killed Monday, Dec. 21, in the 5300 block of South Compton Avenue in Central-Alameda, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
Shortly before midnight, Moss was walking through a park when he was approached by a man who shot him, LAPD Det. Rich Arciniega said.
Moss was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 11:53 p.m., according to coroner’s records.
Witnesses identified the gunman as Prentiss Johnson, a 39-year-old black man, Arciniega said.
Johnson has been charged with one count of murder and possession of a firearm by a felon, according to the Los Angeles County district attorney’s office.
Johnson pleaded not guilty to the charges Jan. 11 and is due back in court Feb. 10, according to the district attorney's office.

About 4 p.m., Dominick Teret, a 22-year-old Latino, made a 911 call to say that Baca had been accidentally shot, according to LAPD Det. James Fillmore. She was transported to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead at 7:09 p.m.
Teret later changed his story, Fillmore said, saying that Baca had instead committed suicide. Coroner’s investigators ruled the death a homicide.
On Dec. 23, Teret, of Tarzana, pleaded not guilty to one count of murder in Baca’s death. He also faces allegations of using a shotgun in the killing.

Bryan Wilfredo Najarro, a 24-year-old Latino, was fatally stabbed Wednesday, Dec. 16, near Avenue 59 and North Figueroa Street in Highland Park, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
About 2:30 a.m., LAPD patrol officers responded to a call of a stabbing and found Najarro suffering from multiple stab wounds, said LAPD Det. Ryan Watterson.
Najarro was pronounced dead at the scene at 2:38 a.m., according to coroner’s records.
A preliminary description from witnesses indicated that the suspects could be two Latinas in their 30s, who were wearing dark clothing, Watterson said.

Carlos Davis Gregory, a 37-year-old Latino male, died Monday, Dec. 14, after being shot in Arlington Heights, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.
Thomas Johnson, a 21-year-old black man, was shot and killed Sunday, Dec. 13, at 550 South Flower St. in downtown, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
Shortly before 2:30 a.m., a group of men got into a fight with another group of men, police said. At some point, a man pulled out a gun and fired several rounds in front of a hotel, striking two people.
Johnson ran through the hotel’s ground floor to the back entry, and the gunman ran around the hotel and confronted Johnson. The gunman fired several rounds, hitting Johnson and another man, who returned fire.
The four wounded men were taken to a hospital. Johnson was pronounced dead at 3:02 a.m., according to coroner’s records.
On Dec. 15, police released surveillance video of the suspected gunman.

Peter Yu, a 28-year-old Korean man, was shot and killed Sunday, Dec. 13, in the 3900 block of Wilshire Boulevard in Koreatown, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
Shortly after 9:30 p.m., Yu was inside an SUV in a parking lot behind a strip mall when a man approached and began shooting him, said Lt. John Radtke with the Los Angeles Police Department.
The gunman then ran south on South Gramercy Place to Wilshire Boulevard. Witnesses told police that the man, described as an Asian, was wearing a black bomber-style jacket and a black hat, Radtke said.
Police are trying to determine a motive behind the shooting, Radtke said.

Michael Francis Williams, a 66-year-old black male, died Saturday, Dec. 12, after sustaining blunt force trauma in Watts, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.
Mitchell Maya, a 20-year-old Latino, died Wednesday, Dec. 9, after he was shot in the 700 block of North Breed Street in Boyle Heights, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
About 8 p.m. on Dec. 8, Maya had just walked out of his home to run errands when residents in the area reported hearing gunshots, said LAPD Det. Jose Ramirez.
Maya was struck by gunfire and ran about 300 feet, to the 700 block of Cornwell Street, where he was found.
Maya was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 1:10 a.m. on Dec. 9. The motive for the shooting remains under investigation.

Modesto Santa Clara, a 64-year-old Latino, was fatally stabbed Tuesday, Dec. 8, in the 500 block of East 5th Street in downtown, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
Shortly before 1:30 p.m., Santa Clara got into an argument with another person, LAPD Det. Doug Pierce said. Santa Clara was chased down and stabbed. Police found Santa Clara on the sidewalk with stab wounds.
Pedro Hechavarr Tellez, a 51-year-old Latino, was arrested on suspicion of murder Jan. 6. Tellez has been charged with one count of murder and is due in court for arraignment Jan. 27, according to the Los Angeles County district attorney’s office.

Charles Leonard Smith, a 66-year-old black man, was found dead Monday, Dec. 7, off North Alvarado Street underneath the 101 Freeway, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
About 11 a.m., Smith was found with stab wounds inside his tent under the freeway, said LAPD Det. Ray Martinez. Smith was last seen alive about 11 p.m. Sunday.
Martinez said that Smith was well-known to the merchants and others who frequent the area. "I'm sure somebody heard something," he said.
In April, Martinez said, Smith was stabbed after an argument. No one was arrested in that incident, and police are looking into whether that was related to the fatal attack.
Smith was featured in the Los Angeles Times in June in an article about a City Council proposal to crack down on homeless encampments. The article outlined the possessions of homeless people.
