Bradley Meas, a 32-year-old Asian man, was fatally shot Dec. 29  in the 2300 block of East 124th Street in Long Beach, according to Los Angeles County Medical Examiner-Coroner records. 

Meas was standing on the sidewalk with four other people in front of an apartment complex around 5:30 p.m. when two adult males walked up to the group, according to a Long Beach Police Department news release. One of the newcomers yelled at the group and "subsequently  opened fire," striking Meas and another adult male. 

The suspects fled from the scene on foot before officers arrived, according to the release.

Meas and the other gunshot victim were taken to a nearby hospital where Meas was pronounced dead at 5:34 p.m., according to coroner's records. 

The second victim was treated for his wounds and released, according to the news release.

Dayvon Taylor, a 6-year-old boy, was pronounced dead on Thursday, Dec. 26, after he was "severely beaten" in a Downey apartment, according to a news release from the Los Angeles County district attorney's office.

Tyler D'Shaun Martin Brand, the boy's 23-year-old godfather, was charged with murder and assault on Dec. 30 in connection with the boy's death, according to the release.

Dayvon, a first-grader at Normandie Avenue Elementary, had been in Martin Brand's care for "several days" over the holiday break, according to the news release. The boy was pronounced dead at St. Mary Medical Center in Long Beach the evening of Dec. 26.

Downey Police investigators have released only a few details on the case and put a security hold on the autopsy results, meaning they can't be released to the public.

Andrew Isaiah Andalon, a 22-year-old Latino, was fatally shot on Wednesday, Dec. 25, in the 1100 block of East Hollyvale Street in Azusa, according to Los Angeles County Medical Examiner-Coroner records. 

Andalon, a resident of La Puente, was visiting with some acquaintances in a carport outside an apartment complex around 4 a.m. on Christmas morning, said Los Angeles County Sheriff's Lt. Scott Hoglund. 

A car drove down the alley in front of the carport and someone inside began shooting, Hoglund said. 

Andalon was struck by the gunfire and ran to one of the apartments, where he collapsed, Hoglund said. He was pronounced dead at 4:24 a.m., according to coroner's records. The cause of death was listed as a gunshot wound to the chest. 

No one else was injured, Hoglund said.

Jonathan Alexander Villa, a 20-year-old Latino male, died Wednesday, Dec. 25, after being shot near 8th Street E/O Garland Avenue in Westlake, according to Los Angeles County Medical Examiner-Coroner's records.

Heather Ann Kent, a 59-year-old white female, died Tuesday, Dec. 24, in South Park, according to Los Angeles County Medical Examiner-Coroner's records.

 Mikie Sontero Tarango, a 41-year-old Latino, was fatally shot Monday, Dec. 23, in the 1100 block of East Larkwood Street in West Covina, according to Los Angeles County Medical Examiner-Coroner records. 

Tarango was in his garage with his brother and a female friend around 9 p.m. when two men walked up and at least one of the men began shooting, striking all three of the people inside, said West Covina Police Lt. Travis Tibbetts.

Tarango was pronounced dead at the scene at 9:25 p.m., according to coroner's records. The cause of death was listed as a gunshot wound to the chest.

His brother was taken to the hospital in critical condition but is expected to survive, Tibbetts said. The woman was taken to the hospital and treated for non-life-threatening injuries, he said.

Guillermo M. Romero, a 42-year-old Latino male, died Sunday, Dec. 22, after being shot near the 300 block of Witmer Street in Westlake, according to Los Angeles County Medical Examiner-Coroner's records.

Roberto DeJesus Hernandez, a 53-year-old Latino male, died Saturday, Dec. 21, after being shot near the 800 block of North Mariposa Avenue in East Hollywood, according to Los Angeles County Medical Examiner-Coroner's records.

Earl Dean Chiles, a 43-year-old black man, was shot and killed Saturday Dec. 21 in the 11500 block of South Vermont Avenue in Vermont Vista, according to Los Angeles County Medical Examiner-Coroner’s records.

About 1:30 a.m., people were in a parking lot when an argument broke out and Chiles was shot, said Los Angeles Police Det. Nathan Kouri.

It’s unclear what the disagreement was about, and the shooter fled.

Chiles was pronounced dead at the scene at 1:47 a.m., according to coroner’s records.

Police are seeking witnesses.

Nathan Anthony Fernandes, a 17-year-old Latino, was shot and killed Thursday, Dec. 19 in the 10700 block of Anzac Avenue in Watts, according to Los Angeles County Medical Examiner-Coroner’s records.

About 7:45 p.m., Fernandes was standing in his front yard when a vehicle traveling north drove up and a person inside began shooting, striking the teenager, said Los Angeles Police Det. Nathan Kouri.

The vehicle continued traveling north on South Anzac Avenue.

Fernandes was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 8:30 p.m., according to coroner’s records.

It’s unclear why Fernandes was shot.

Police are looking for witnesses.

Kalvin Damian Sanchez, a 23-year-old Latino male, died Wednesday, Dec. 18, after sustaining blunt force trauma near 3939 S. Figueroa St. in Exposition Park, according to Los Angeles County Medical Examiner-Coroner's records.

Yocelin Kadi Zuniga, an 18-year-old Latina, died Wednesday, Dec. 18, after she was shot near Vanowen Street and Ethel Avenue in Valley Glen, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.

On Dec. 14 about 9 p.m., Zuniga was in the passenger seat of a white BMW that her boyfriend was driving east on Vanowen Street when the car stopped at Ethel Avenue, said Los Angeles police Det. James Fillmore.

A gray sedan pulled up and a person inside shot at the BMW, striking Zuniga in the head, Fillmore said.

As Zuniga’s boyfriend tried to chase down the sedan, the two cars continued east on Vanowen, then onto Coldwater Canyon Avenue, Fillmore said.

The boyfriend hit a curb, then took Zuniga back to his house and called 911.

Zuniga was taken to a hospital where she was on life support until Dec. 18.

George Angel Garcia, a 43-year-old Latino, was found dead Tuesday, Dec. 17, 2019, in the 12500 block of Raymer Street in Valley Glen, according to Los Angeles County medical-examiner coroner’s records.

About 10:30 a.m., officers from the LAPD’s North Hollywood division responded to a call for a death investigation near railroad tracks in the area, police said.

Officers found Garcia near the tracks with blunt force trauma to his head. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Detectives are looking for witnesses to the attack, which they believe occurred between 7 and 10:30 a.m. south of the railroad tracks.
