Otto Paiz, a 56-year-old Latino, was found shot to death Sunday, June 6, in the 2100 block of 2nd Avenue in Arlington Heights, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

Wilshire Area patrol officers responded to a call at a residence about 5:35 a.m. after Paiz was discovered unresponsive in his car by a young woman, according to an LAPD news release.

When officers arrived, they found Paiz in the car with a gunshot wound, police said. Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics were summoned and pronounced Paiz dead at 5:44 a.m., according to coroner's records.

Detectives said Paiz was shot while seated in the driver’s seat of his car. The motive for the killing remains unknown.

Chris Johnson, a 17-year-old black youth, was shot and killed Sunday, June 6, in the 1200 block of East 118th Street in Green Meadows, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

Johnson, a resident of Los Angeles, was standing outside near a vehicle shortly after midnight when a person in a passing car shot at him, said Ed Winter, spokesman for the coroner's office.

Authorities were called and Johnson was taken Lynwood Hospital where he died at 1:20 a.m., according to coroner's records.

The coroner's office had no additional information about the incident.

Guillermo Huitron, a 22-year-old Latino, died Saturday, June 5, less than an hour after he was shot in the 1200 block of West D Street in Wilmington, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

Huitron was at a party in the backyard about 11:50 a.m. Friday when someone pulled out a gun and fired, hitting Huitron, said Ed Winter, spokesman for the coroner's office.

Authorities were called and 12 minutes later, Huitron was pronounced dead at the scene, according to coroner's records.

It appears Huitron was an innocent bystander, Winter said.

Michael Silva, a 39-year-old Latino, was stabbed to death Saturday, June 5, in the 7000 block of Glade Avenue in Canoga Park, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

Topanga Area patrol officers responded to a 911 call described as “unknown trouble” at a residence about 2 a.m., according to an LAPD news release.

When officers arrived, they discovered Silva lying unconscious in the driveway with multiple stab wounds to his body, police said.

Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics were called, and they pronounced Silva dead at the scene, according to coroner's records.

Victor De Los Santos, a 19-year-old Latino, was shot and killed Saturday, June 5, in the 3300 block of Verdugo Road in Glassell Park, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

Police responded to reports that shots had been fired early Saturday morning and found De Los Santos suffering from several gunshot wounds, said LAPD Northeast Det. TJ Morris.

De Los Santos was pronounced dead at the scene at 12:45 a.m., according to coroner's records.

Another victim, a 19-year-old Latino, was also shot and taken to Glendale Memorial Hospital, Morris said. He was later transferred to another hospital for treatment.

At least one of the victims had gang ties, Morris said, and it’s believed the shooting was gang-related.

Currently, investigators do not have a description of the possible shooter, Morris said.

George Williams Jr., a 25-year-old black man, was fatally shot Saturday, June 5, in the 200 block of East 30th Street in Historic South-Central, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

Police responded to a call reporting gunfire early Saturday and found Williams, who lived nearby, on the sidewalk with several gunshot wounds, said LAPD Newton Det. Leonardo McKenzie.

The Los Angeles  Fire Department was called, and Williams was taken to California Hospital Medical Center, where he died at 1:09 a.m., according to coroner's records.

Investigators have no motive for the shooting or description of the assailant.

Alvin Dexter, a 42-year-old black man, was shot and killed Friday, June 4, in the 1100 block of West 105th Street in Westmont, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

Dexter was visiting a relative about 7:45 p.m. when he was shot while walking to the front gate, said sheriff's homicide Det. Richard Tomlin, who is handling the investigation.

Authorities were called and Dexter was taken to Harbor UCLA Medical Center where he died at 8:17 p.m., according to coroner's records.

Witnesses to the shooting said they saw two males running from the scene, Tomlin said.

Investigators do not have any additional details about the incident.

Jeanette Moran-Alvarado, a 37-year-old Latina, was stabbed to death Thursday, June 3, in the 100 block of South Mountain View Avenue in Westlake, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

LAPD Rampart Area patrol officers responded to a call of a man harassing a woman about 8:30 p.m., according to an LAPD news release.

When police arrived at the location, they found Alvarado lying in the road bleeding, authorities said. [Note: LAPD officials gave her name as Deborah Alvarado, although she was identified by the coroner as Jeanette Moran-Alvarado.]

Paramedics were called, and Alvarado was taken to County-USC Medical Center, where she died at 9:15 p.m., according to coroner's records.

Through several tips and leads, officers detained Simon Vega, a 26-year-old Latino, in connection with Alvarado's killing.

Evelyn Dominguez, a 28-year-old Latina, was shot to death Wednesday, June 2, in the 12200 block of Rooks Road in the City of Industry, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

Pico Rivera Station deputies along with paramedics responded to a "person down" call about 5:35 a.m., according to a news release from the Sheriff's Department.

When authorities arrived, they found Dominguez suffering from several gunshot wounds to the upper torso, and she was pronounced dead at the scene.

Dominguez was clothed and wearing white socks, but no shoes, according to the San Gabriel Valley Tribune. The paper also reported that San Bernardino County court records show Dominguez had a $25,000 arrest warrant for failing to appear in court on an April 2009 charge for possession of drug paraphernalia.

Herbert Wong, a 30-year-old Asian man, died Wednesday, June 2, several hours after he was stabbed in the 7500 block of Hayvenhurst Avenue in Van Nuys, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

The attack was reported about 10:20 p.m. Tuesday at Ultima DVD Inc., a video distribution business where Stephen Hill, the alleged assailant, did production work and apparently lived, police said.

Homicide Det. Joel Price said Hill attacked one man in a back room of the business with a machete-style weapon. Two colleagues heard loud screams and rushed to his aid.

Hill [pictured right] turned on the colleagues and swung the weapon repeatedly, cutting both men, police said. All three victims were rushed to Northridge Hospital Medical Center, where Wong was pronounced dead at 12:30 a.m. Wednesday, according to coroner's records.

Christopher Galloway, a 21-year-old black man, was shot and killed Monday, May 31, in the 1800 block of West 74th Street in Manchester Square, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

Galloway was standing with other people in front of a home where a party was taking place about 12:37 a.m. when he was approached by two males, said Det. Chris Barling, of the LAPD's Criminal Gang and Homicide unit.

The males said they knew girls inside the party and asked to enter, Barling said. When Galloway told them that he did not believe they knew anyone at the party, one of them pulled out a gun and shot at him, Barling said. No one else was hurt.

The two assailants, described as black males in their teens to mid-20s, then fled on foot.

Juan Montes, a 24-year-old Latino, died Monday, May 31, several hours after he was shot in the 1400 block of East 25th Street in Central-Alameda, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

Montes was involved in an altercation that escalated into a shooting about 9:55 p.m. Sunday, said LAPD Newton Det. Tommy Thompson.

Montes was taken to County-USC Medical Center where he died at 12:55 a.m. Monday, according to coroner’s records.

No arrests have been made in connection with the shooting, Thompson said.

Edgar Guerrero, a 16-year-old Latino, was fatally shot Monday, May 31, in the 15000 block of Loukelton Street in La Puente, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

Guerrero was at an apartment complex visiting friends about 1:45 a.m. when he was approached by two individuals and shot, said Sgt. Howard Cooper of the L.A. County Sheriff's Department, who is handling the investigation.

Authorities were called and Guerrero was pronounced dead at the scene.

After the shooting, the assailants fled on foot, Cooper said. They were described as being Latino and in their teens to early 30s.

Leonardo Lopez, a 17-year-old Latino, was shot and killed Sunday, May 30, near Fickett and Fairmont streets in Boyle Heights, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

A person walked up to Lopez about 11:25 a.m. and shot him, said Ed Winter, spokesman for the coroner's office.

Lopez was taken to Los Angeles County-USC Medical Center, where he died at 1:45 p.m., according to coroner's records.

At the time of the incident, no arrests were made, Winter said. An autopsy is still pending, Winter said.

Calls to the LAPD Hollenbeck detectives to obtain more information about the shooting were not immediately returned.

The Times will provide additional details about the incident as soon as they become available.

Ryan Helm, a 36-year-old white man, was shot and killed Sunday, May 30, in the 1000 block of Cherry Avenue in Long Beach, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

Police responded to a call reporting gunfire about 4:08 a.m. and found Helm suffering from several gunshot wounds to the upper body, according to a Long Beach Police Department news release.

Helm was taken by paramedics to a local hospital where he died at 4:53 a.m., according to coroner's records.

Investigators had no information about the assailant, and a motive for the shooting remains unknown.
