Andrew Caprio, a 42-year-old white man, was shot and killed by police Monday, May 24, on the 101 Freeway near the Van Nuys Boulevard exit in Sherman Oaks, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

LAPD Officer Carlos Ayala and his partner were patrolling the Hollenbeck Area shortly before 1 a.m. when they saw Caprio speeding past them in a Mercedes Benz 300E Sedan, according to a police news release.

Caprio was described as driving erratically and committing several traffic violations. Believing he was possibly under the influence of drugs or alcohol, Ayala and his partner attempted to make a traffic stop. However, Caprio refused to pull over. He then led the officers on a pursuit that continued through Los Angeles, South Pasadena, Monrovia and back into the City of Los Angeles, police said.

Alexis Wallace, a 15-year-old black girl, died Sunday, May 23, in the 1800 block of Wellington Road in Mid-City, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

Police and paramedics responded to a reported shooting about 5:45 p.m. When paramedics arrived, they found Alexis with a gunshot wound to her back, authorities said.

Alexis was taken to a hospital, where she was later pronounced dead at 7:33 p.m., according to coroner's records.

Sources familiar with the case said Alexis and a teenage boy may have been playing Russian roulette with a pistol but that the boy, who was holding the gun, believed he had taken the bullets out.

When Alexis had gotten up to leave, the boy pointed the gun at her and pressed the trigger, not realizing that a round was still in the chamber, authorities said.

Andrez Burgueno, a 24-year-old Latino, was shot and killed Saturday, May 22, in the 4400 block of West 102nd Street in Inglewood, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

Lennox Sheriff deputies responded to a "gunshot victim" call about 8:33 p.m., according to sheriff press release.

Authorities learned Burgueno, a resident of the area, was taken to a hospital by a family member. He later died from his injuries at 9:20 p.m., according to coroner's records.

Sandra Oliver-Jones, a 47-year-old black woman, died Saturday, May 22, in the 3100 block of Avenue Q13 in Palmdale, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

Steven Estell, Oliver-Jones' boyfriend, initially told police he last saw his girlfriend at her residence one hour after sundown May 21, said Ed Winter, spokesman for the coroner's office.

According to the account Estell gave authorities, when he returned to her home an hour later he found Oliver-Jones unresponsive lying on the floor. He did not call 911, Winter said.

It wasn't until Oliver-Jones’ roommate came home the next morning and saw her body that Estell, a 39-year-old  black man, was urged to contact the authorities, Winter said. Paramedics were called and Oliver-Jones was pronounced dead at the scene, according to coroner's records.

Det. Todd Anderson, who is handling the investigation, said Estell later told authorities that he beat Oliver-Jones to death about 10 …

Roberto Naranjo, a 27-year-old Latino, was shot to death Saturday, May 22, in the 500 block of Gallardo Street in Boyle Heights, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

Naranjo was walking to his vehicle when he was shot, the Los Angeles Police Department said.

He was found by a family member about 2:15 a.m. and taken to a hospital, police said.

Naranjo was pronounced dead at 8:15 a.m., according to coroner's records.

[Update May 24: Naranjo was at a birthday celebration at a nightclub with friends and family about 2 a.m. when he left the event to go to his car, according to an LAPD news release.

When he went his vehicle, located near Cesar Chavez Avenue and Gallardo Street, he was approached by an unknown gunman and shot, authorities said.

Shavonna Jones, a 30-year-old black woman, was shot to death Saturday, May 22, in the 10500 block of Central Avenue in Green Meadows, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

The shooting occurred about 8:40 a.m. at a home, said Los Angeles Police Department spokesman Cleon Joseph. "[Jones] was killed by her husband in the domestic dispute," Joseph said.

Local television news reported that Jones was a security officer who had taken out a restraining order on her husband, and that she was killed while her two sons were sleeping. Her body was discovered by her 15-year old son, according to KTLA.

Detectives on Monday said they are continuing to search for her husband.

Luis Palomera, a 25-year-old Latino, was shot to death Friday, May 21, in the 13000 block of Earl Street in Baldwin Park, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

Palomera was in a back yard about 7:50 p.m. when an unknown assailant drove through an alley and shot him, said Ed Winter, spokesman for the coroner's office.

Authorities were called, and Palomera was pronounced dead at the scene, according to coroner's records.

Another Latino was shot, according to a sheriff press release, and he was taken to a hospital where he was treated for his injuries.

Detectives have determined the shooting was gang-related.

Savoy Ewell, a 20-year-old black man, was shot and killed Friday, May 21, in the 4300 block 28th Street in Jefferson Park, according to Los Angeles Police Department officials.

Ewell and a friend were sitting in a vehicle in the 4300 block of 28th Street when an unknown assailant approached and shot at them about 2:40 p.m., said LAPD Det. Jim Yoshida, who is handling the investigation.

In an attempt to escape the shooter, the friend, also wounded, drove the car to the 4300 block of W. Adams Boulevard, where there were more people outside, Yoshida said.

Authorities were called and both victims were taken to a hospital. Ewell suffered from several gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at 3:14 p.m., according to coroner's records.

The friend was treated for their injuries and later released from the hospital, Yoshida said.

Anne Ward, a 77-year-old white woman, was fatally shot Thursday, May 20, in the 7200 block of Cirrus Way in West Hills, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

Police discovered the bodies of an elderly couple around 9 a.m. after responding to a 911 call from the residence, the Los Angeles Police Department said.

The husband and wife, later identified by the coroner's office as Anne Ward, were found inside after an officer entered the home through an open rear door. The victims had single gunshot wounds to their heads. The spouses were pronounced dead at the scene by Fire Department paramedics, the LAPD said.

It's believed the incident was an apparent murder-suicide case, police said.

Wilbert Robertson, a 22-year-old black man, was shot and killed Wednesday, May 19, in the 200 block of West 41st Place in Historic South-Central, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

Ed Winter, spokesman for the coroner's office, said Robertson was shot about 10:10 p.m.

He was taken to a hospital, where he died about 10:40 p.m. due to complication from his injuries, according to coroner's records.

Robertson was the victim of a walk-up shooting, Winter said.

The coroner's office had no additional details about the case and several calls to detectives were not returned.

The Times will post more information about the incident as soon as it becomes available.

Linda Newson, a 58-year-old black woman, was shot to death Wednesday, May 19, in the 1400 block of East Florence Avenue in Florence-Firestone, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

Newson, a transient living in her car, was working on her vehicle about 8:30 p.m. when an unknown assailant approached and shot her in the head, said L.A. County sheriff's Det. Richard Garcia, who is handling the investigation.

After the shooting, the assailant fled on foot, he said.

Authorities were called and Newson was pronounced dead at the scene, according to coroner's records.

There were several witnesses to the shooting and they described the shooter as a Latino in his 20s. Authorities believe he was a gang member.

Investigators do not have any leads in the case at this time.

Israel Munoz, a 26-year-old Latino, was stabbed to death Tuesday, May 18, in the 70 block of West 48th Street in Long Beach, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

Munoz, a resident of Long Beach, was attacked shortly after 9:30 p.m. at a home, the Long Beach Police Department said.

He was taken to a local hospital where he died at 10:03 p.m., according to coroner's records.

The department said Tracy Terrie Taylor, a 27-year-old black woman, who police believe was Munoz's girlfriend, was arrested in connection with his killing and has been charged with one count of murder, according to prosecutors.

Taylor is currently being held at the Century Regional Detention Facility in Lynwood in lieu of $1-million bail. Her next court appearance is scheduled for June 7 at the Long Beach Superior Court.

Christopher Moreland, a 19-year-old black man, was fatally shot Tuesday, May 18, near Myrtle Avenue and East Buckthorn Street in Inglewood, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

Moreland was standing on the sidewalk Tuesday evening when an unknown assailant on foot approached and shot him, said Inglewood Homicide Det. Loyd Waters, who is handling the investigation.

Authorities were called and Moreland was taken to Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center, where he died at 10:24 p.m., according to coroner's records.

Investigators do not have any leads on a suspect at this time.

Ronald Rawleigh, a 50-year-old black man, was found shot to death Tuesday, May 18, across from the 7600 block of Miramonte Boulevard in Florence-Firestone, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

About 3:30 a.m., residents in the area heard gunshots fired, but did not call 911, said Ed Winter, spokesman for the coroner's office.

It was not until about three hours later that a driver saw Rawleigh's body on the street and alerted authorities, Winter said.

When deputies arrived, Rawleigh -- who had been shot several times --  was pronounced dead at the scene, according to coroner's records.
