Carlos Torres, a 39-year-old Latino, was shot and killed by Los Angeles police Monday, Aug. 19, near Branford Street and Arleta Avenue in Arleta, according to Los Angeles County medical examiner-coroner’s records.
The incident began at 4:19 p.m., when officers from the LAPD’s Mission Division responded to a call of a family dispute in the 13100 block of Ottoman Street.
When officers arrived they were directed by the person who called police to Torres, who was on the front porch, according to a statement from the LAPD.
Officers tried to speak with Torres, who stepped back into the house as he removed a gun from his waistband. He removed his gun and fired at the officers, who fired back, police said.
Torres then went into the house and was seen running through a neighboring yard and onto Ottoman Street. As Torres continued to run, police fired again at him. …
Roberto Rene Gabriel, a 33-year-old Latino, died Monday, Aug. 19, after he was shot by Los Angeles police near Alhambra and Belleglade avenues in El Sereno, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
On Aug. 18, shortly before 11:30 p.m., officers from the Los Angeles Police Department’s Hollenbeck Division were in a patrol SUV about to approach a red traffic light when they were suddenly shot at, according to a news release from the department.
A round hit the driver’s side door of the SUV and the gunman ran west and into an alley north of Alhambra Avenue, police said.
The officers called for help and then tried to find the person. Anticipating that the gunman would try to leave the area through a nearby alley, the officers drove to Alhambra and Belleglade avenues and spotted the man on the sidewalk.

An unarmed man who was shot and killed by sheriff’s deputies at a South Los Angeles apartment complex in early June was struck by six bullets, with three of the rounds entering his back, an autopsy report shows.
The 20-page document, released by the Los Angeles County medical examiner on Thursday, showed that bullets also struck 24-year-old Ryan Twyman in his neck, his right side and his left upper arm. Four bullets were recovered from his body, the report states.
A bullet that struck his upper back and perforated his lung and heart and another that struck his mid-back and entered his spine caused fatal wounds, according to the report.

Omar Munoz Jr., a 25-year-old Latino, was fatally shot Thursday, Aug. 15, in the 300 block of Harps Street in San Fernando, according to Los Angeles County Medical Examiner-Coroner's records.
Munoz had moved his pickup nearer to his home around 9:30 p.m., and was standing in the street when a car drove up and someone inside began shooting, said Los Angeles County Sheriff's Lt. Derrick Alfred.
It's not known whether Munoz had a conversation with the people in the car before the was shot, Alfred said. No one reported seeing the shooting, but some witnesses reported seeing a light-colored sedan speeding from the area, heading west on Harps Street, Alfred said.
Munoz was pronounced dead at the scene at 9:47 p.m., according to coroner's records. The cause of death was listed as multiple gunshot wounds.
Investigators don't have a motive for the shooting, Alfred said.

Kenneth Thomas Glenn, a 23-year-old black man, was shot and killed Thursday, Aug. 15, in the 8900 block of South Central Avenue in Green Meadows, according to Los Angeles County Medical Examiner-Coroner’s records.
About 8:30 p.m., Glenn was inside a market when he got into an argument with another person who pulled out a gun and shot him, said Los Angeles Police Det. Nathan Kouri.
The gunman fled in a red sedan, Kouri said.
Glenn was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead at 9:11 p.m., according to coroner’s records.
Police arrested Robert Earl Hubbert, a 30-year-old black man, on suspicion of murder.
Hubbert was charged Sept. 3 with one count of murder with gun and gang allegations, according to the Los Angeles County district attorney’s office. He was also charged with being a felon in possession of a firearm, prosecutors said.

Jose Antonio Flores Velazquez, a 24-year-old Latino, was fatally shot on Wednesday, Aug. 14, in the 1100 block of East 68th Street in the Florence-Firestone area of South Los Angeles, according to records from the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner.
Flores Velazquez, a doctoral student in astrophysics at UC Irvine, had come back to his old neighborhood to visit his family and drop off a baby shower gift to his childhood friend, Alfredo Antonio Carrera, 24, said Los Angeles County Sheriff's Lt. Derrick Alfred.
The shower was scheduled for that coming Saturday, to honor the first child of Carrera and his girlfriend, Marilyn Cuevas, The Times reported. Flores Velazquez couldn't attend the shower, but he wanted to make sure Carrera got his gift— a physics book for children.
